CW's Dawn Ostroff credits fan letters & emails with influencing decision to air Moonlight

TV Guide interviewed Dawn Ostroff (entertainment chief of the CW Network) regarding the channel's plan to air Moonlight after The Vampire Diaries. She specifically says all the email messages and letters loyal fans of the show continue to send influenced their decision! *cheer* Keep up the good work! Who knows what else Moonlight fans will accomplish. =)

In this article, Alex is also quoted about enjoying the "aggressive, animalistic side of the show."

The CW Sinks Its Teeth Into Moonlight
by Ileane Rudolph

Alex O'Loughlin fans got a bloody good summer treat when the CW acquired all 16 episodes of Moonlight, the Aussie actor's short-lived but beloved vampire detective show. "We get letters and e-mails about Moonlight all the time," says CW entertainment chief Dawn Ostroff. "And so we thought it would be interesting if we aired it following The Vampire Diaries."

Moonlight (Thursdays at 9/8c, The CW) follows the perpetually 30-year-old private investigator Mick St. John (O'Loughlin), his hedonistic buddy Josef (Jason Dohring) and Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), a young reporter whose chemistry with Mick threatens her relationship with her human fiancé. Around to cause trouble: the seductive Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned Mick on their wedding night six decades earlier.

On tonight's episode, as Mick and Beth track down a dangerous newly formed blood sucker, the potential couple have the conversation. Mick offers the snoopy journalist a primer on all things vampire. But will he reveal his own creepily romantic turning story? And will Beth bolt?

"I love the aggressive, animalistic side of the show," says O'Loughlin, who will star in CBS' buzzworthy remake of Hawaii Five-O in the fall. "I love the genre, the action and the masculinity of the character." The many passionate female fans were "awesome," he says, "but I want my pals to think it's cool." Cool, yeah, and very, very hot.

Do you want Alex O'Loughlin on the NCIS spinoff show?

Matt Mitovich recently reported that CBS is definitely going to air a spin-off of their current show, NCIS. This was confirmed by Nina Tassler. He went on to speculate about Alex O'Loughlin being cast on NCIS Part 2 due to the talent holding deal Alex signed with CBS. Matt wants to know how the fans feel about that idea. Do you want Alex O'Loughlin to appear on the new NCIS spinoff show? I can answer that without hesitation........ NO!

TV Guide ~ Today's News: Our Take
CBS Boss Confirms NCIS Spin-off, Offers Alex O'Loughlin Update
by Matt Mitovich

You can never have too much of a good thing. Having proven that with a string of successful CSIs, CBS now is looking to capitalize on NCIS' strongest season ever by spinning a new series off of what was essentially a JAG spin-off.

"It's happening. We're doing it," CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler confirmed Wednesday at the TCA Winter Press Tour. "We've seen an outline. We're in great shape, and we're just waiting to get the script. But we're going to cast, and we're going to shoot."

It's yet to be cast, you say? Here's a provocative thought. CBS long ago inked a development deal with Alex O'Loughlin, who had cultivated quite a fan following as the star of the (too) short-lived Moonlight. Perhaps the Aussie hunk could return to the fore as the front man for NCIS 2? Asked separately about the status of O'Loughlin's deal with the Eye, Tassler said, "Hopefully we will [see him soon]."

As for the origin of the NCIS spin-off — which, sources say, will simply follow the cases of a team situated elsewhere — Tassler said that just as the Mark Harmon starrer "was [born of] an episode of JAG, this will be an episode of NCIS" airing later this season.

So, who's with me on the Alex O'Loughlin/NCIS 2 merger?!

I have a little time before our family dinner. Sooooo.... I'll do a post for my Moonlight family :)

Another Moonlight fan rally is making news! This time, it is the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania gathering.

Tuned In Journal: 'Moonlight' fans gather ... in daylight!
By Rob Owen, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Local fans of the canceled CBS vampire drama "Moonlight" plan to have a picnic. In the daylight.

Fans will gather outside the Schenley Park visitor center, 12-4 p.m., Saturday.

"Come help us support 'Moonlight,'" says a release put out by local fan Dorothy Jadlowiec and her granddaughter. "There will be donuts, cold drinks and lots of people who love a certain, sexy vampire, his lovely lady and his snarky but lovable friend!"

But why in daylight? And why at Schenley Park and not in front of KDKA where they'd get a lot of attention since the Three Rivers Arts Festival has set up shop in front of the station's Gateway Center HQ?

Jaclowiec, who is 80 and lives in California, Pa., said fans chatting online made plans to meet in parks across the country (Central Park in New York and Griffith Park in Los Angeles).

"We didn't want to be that obvious," she said of the notion of rallying in front of KDKA. Besides, the campaign to get the show renewed has moved away from CBS. Now fans are encouraging Sci Fi Channel and DirecTV to give the show a shot.

"We're getting four or five people from the area and people are bringing people," she said. "We're getting a contingent from Ohio because they didn't get their act together."

Jadlowiec said she's one of the show's older fans; most top out in their 50s or 60s.

"My grandkids have been in awe since I got pages on Facebook and MySpace," she said. "My kids call it, 'What is Grandma up to now?'"

And how did she become a local "Moonlight" leader?

"I opened my big mouth," she said.

Jadlowiec, who goes by the name Arabella online (she also writes an Internet magazine devoted to classic films), said fans will not be wearing fangs at their rally Saturday.

"But we will be wearing shirts" devoted to "Moonlight," she said. "I got my 5-year-old great-granddaughter a shirt that says, 'It's Friday night, do you know where your vampire is?'"

San Francisco Moonlight fan rally ~ Saturday, June 14th

Can't turn my brain off. I thought I would spend a little time with Moonlight and you :)

Plus..... there is great positive news to pass on. As you know, there are Moonlight fan rallies planned all over the country this Saturday. The San Francisco Bay gathering is already receiving wonderful press attention from InsideBayArea.com.

“Moonlight” Fans Refuse To Give Up
By Chuck Barney

You’ve gotta love those “Moonlight” fans. They refuse to take “you’re canceled” for an answer.

After the vampire drama was axed in May by CBS, the loyalists bore their fangs and rallied together in hopes of bringing the show back from the dead, a la “Jericho” last summer. They’ve put out ads. They’ve had blood drives. Now they’re having a series of picnics, including one right here in the East Bay.

The event is set for Saturday at the Berkeley Marina in Caesar Chavez Park and it will run from noon to 3 p.m. Lynne T., one of the organizers, says everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free. They’re also promising free food and entertainment.

In addition to the event in Berkeley, there are picnic rallies scheduled this weekend in New York’s Central Park, downtown Orlando, Portland, Dallas, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.

The picnics are all part of a grssroots campaign targeting the Sci-Fi Network to pick up the show and DirecTV to underwrite production costs. For more info on the campaign, click here.

Moonlight fans win TV Squad award as Nuttiest Fans

We are not surprised by this win, are we? :)

By the way.... TV Squad included a video of Mick & Josef drinking from his freshie (which is a scene from Moonlight's season finale ~ Sonata episode #1x16) with the article. I did not post it here beause it is a CBS hosted clip. After CBS canceled our show, I decided not to put any more of their videos on the blog.

The Nuttiest Fans Award: Winner
by Annie Wu

Ladies and gentlemen and vampires, the winner of the TV Squad Nuttiest Fans Award 2008 is... Moonlight!

Punches were thrown, names were called, hearts were broken, but the TV Squad team has made its decision. Not only did Moonlight win the Readers Choice, but we decided that the fans of the show are the most scarily hardcore out of the five nominees.

This was a tough decision, with both the fans of Jericho and members of the Colbert Nation putting up a fair fight. All three groups have done considerable work for charity and have made their dedication well-known through various bizarre acts of fan-love. However, the overwhelming excitement for Moonlight has been compared to the likes of the the Beatlemania era. For a show that has lasted only one season, that's pretty darn impressive.

I experienced some of this manic fanaticism first-hand. As I have mentioned before, I attended the Moonlight panel at this year's New York Comic-Con. I spent the majority of the session in the secluded balcony seating, as I was genuinely a little freaked out by the shrieking horde below. Luckily, I had made it up there before the stars of the show, Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring, appeared onstage. My eardrums would have burst otherwise, I swear. However, even that couldn't compare to the intensity of the crowd's reactions during the clips from the show itself. Words cannot describe the shrill, absolute glee that filled the room, especially when Shannyn Sossamon got a chair leg through the chest.

Fans have also teamed up with Red Cross in organizing dozens of blood drives across the country. Over 3,000 fans promised to donate a pint each in an effort to show their support for a possible Season Two. Even show star O'Loughlin joined in, serving as the official spokesman for the effort, as the drive followed him through various promotional appearances.

What is it about vampire-themed things that make fans extra nutty? Anne Rice's work has had incredible followings, the mediocre Twilight series has an unusually large fanbase and Sesame Street's Count has groupies lined up 'round the block. I guess ladies can't resist broody, pale men and their sharpened canines.

Video interview ~ Alex O'Loughlin answers questions from Moonlight fans!

TV Guide's Matt Mitovich asked Alex O'Loughlin questions sent in by Moonlight fans! Very interesting that Alex says he and our show writers have different ideas about the future of MickBeth. He has such a vision for Mick, and has brought him to life for us. I don't want him to be unhappy with what happens and he has to portray. With all his hard work, I can't imagine that our writers would completely discount his input.

Alex O'Loughlin inspired by his Moonlight fans

Hey all ~ I've heard some cool buzz.... Alex O'Loughlin is rumored to be on the verge of becoming a spokesperson for the American Red Cross ~ YEA! From what I'm hearing, he was soooo impressed by Moonlight fans commitment to donating blood and helping others that he wanted to get involved too. Yet another reason to adore him :)
