Sci Fi Wire ~ Another article mentions a possible Moonlight Movie

As you know, our show won the Saturn Award for Best Television Series Release on DVD. Co-executive producer, Harry Werksman, accepted the trophy. He also answered an entertainment reporter's questions regarding a Moonlight movie. *gulp* We've all been hoping and dreaming of this possibility. According to Harry, "I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season..." He goes on to say that, not only did he speak to Alex O'Loughlin about a film version of Moonlight, but Alex asked him "When are we going to do the movie?" Please, oooo please, oooo please :)
The article states that Moonlight repeats are showing on SciFi each Friday evening. However, our show is not currently on the channel's Friday night schedule. Yellow highlighted text is my emphasis.
Could a movie version of the vampire TV show Moonlight rise from the dead?
By Fred Topel
The recent vampire craze born of Twilight and True Blood came a bit too late to save CBS' Moonlight: The vampire detective series was canceled after one season. But it won a Saturn Award for best series on DVD last week, and executive producer Harry Werksman offered fans some hope that a Moonlight movie could offer some closure.
"Well, we were setting up in the end of our first season that there was a coming war," Werksman said in an exclusive interview at the awards ceremony in Burbank, Calif. "There was the family from which Coraline came, and it was a royal bloodline of vampires that Mick had been brought into, very much unwanted on his part. I think what we were going to try and do is to have the movie encapsulate the entire second season of the coming war."
The series chronicled the casework of detective Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin), who could solve crimes committed by vampires. He was dealing with his own issues with an ex, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon), who turned him without his consent, and a 400-year-old vamp (Jason Dohring), who butted in with underworld politics.
Of course, a movie would require the entire cast to return, and after the show's cancellation, they all booked new gigs. "You know, unfortunately, I think that everyone has kind of moved on," Werksman said.
One medium that does not need actors, however, is comic books. "No, they don't need actors," Werksman said. "We could always do comic books, graphic novels, that's true."
A movie is not out of the question, though, because lead actor O'Loughlin has told Werksman he's still interested. "I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him," he said. "He's like, 'When are we going to do the movie?' I said, 'I don't know, man. Any time you're ready.'"
Moonlight: The Complete Series is available on DVD; reruns currently air on SCI FI Channel Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin in TV Guide's Mega Minute feature
Check out this video. In his Mega Minute feature for TV Guide, Matt Mitovich talks about Alex O'Loughlin and his tv show, Three Rivers. He asked CBS' Kelly Kahl (Senior Executive Vice President of Programming) what he thought would be the secret to the success of the new series. Kelly's reply.... "It's the cute guy from the Vampire show." Three Rivers has been greenlit for the normal freshman 13 episodes. Of course, there is the option for 9 more if the network picks up the program for a full season.
The Alex stuff begins around the :47 mark.

Will Three Rivers be on the CBS Fall television schedule?
Nikki Finke @ Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting "I also hear that MIAMI TRAUMA and THREE RIVERS are still in skintight competition at CBS for the medical show Les Moonves wants." And.......
MIAMI TRAUMA (Warner Bros/CBS-Paramount) is Jerry Bruckheimer's medical show, and I'm told Les wants a medical show. But this may not be the one because sources say it was a "soft screening" and is in competition with Three Rivers.
THREE RIVERS (CBS-Paramount/Deuce Three) is looking likely to be the medical drama Les wants (and wants more than rival Miami Trauma). CBS liked what they saw. And the network loves star Alex O'Loughlin. Not only might he bring his small but rabid Moonlight fanbase, but he recently starred in a Criminal Minds sweeps episode. And I hear CBS Films just put him in the feature film Plan B opposite Jennifer Lopez. Insiders are betting this show with a 24 splitscreen feel will go.

Alex O'Loughlin talks with Entertainment Weekly

Alex O'Loughlin: Catching up with the 'Moonlight' star on his 'Criminal Minds' guest spot and more!
EW ~ PopWatch Blog ~ by Mandi Bierly
We know. You're not used to seeing Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin looking like a serial killer with OCD. (You prefer to remember him the way we do: either holding a "Hi Slezak!" sign at 2008's New York Comic Con or shirtless.) But it's only for a role. O'Loughlin guest stars on tonight's episode of Criminal Minds (CBS, 9 p.m. ET) as what fans of the series know as the Unsub, or unidentified subject. He plays a man who sends a video of one of his murders to the BAU team, hoping that they'll be able to end the bloody spree that he himself cannot stop. We phoned O'Loughlin for a quick chat about the part, his CBS drama pilot Three Rivers, and the romantic comedy he begins shooting next month with Jennifer Lopez, The Back-Up Plan.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY : We can't actually go further into your character on Criminal Minds without giving the twist away, but tell us how the part came to you.
ALEX O'LOUGHLIN : The genius writer and friend of mine Simon Mirren [one of the show's co-executive producers] offered it to me. I'm eating an apple while we talk. Is that okay?
EW : That is fine, yes.
Alex O'Loughlin : Thank you. I read it and was like, "Absolutely." It's not often that I get to play character roles. You kinda leave drama school and you head off into a direction and that's the direction you take. You're either on the character actor route or the leading man route. It was a delight for me to play a role like this.
EW : You are the leading man in the CBS pilot Three Rivers. [We'll know May 20, when CBS announces its fall schedule, if it gets picked up for next season.]
Alex O'Loughlin : I play a cardiothoracic surgeon called Andy Yablonski, who's based on a real-life surgeon called "Gonzo" Gonzales-Stawinski who's become a wonderful friend of mine. He's a cardiothoracic surgeon up at the Cleveland Heart Clinic, which I spent a bunch of time at in my preparation for the role. It's a fantastic script that's really grownup and smart and important. It tells the story of organ transplants from three perspectives: The organ, the recipient, and -- the organ? [Laughs] It tells it from the organ's perspective. From the recipient, the donor, and the surgical team.
EW : I read that Andy is separated from his wife and lives in a motel near the hospital. Is that right?
Alex O'Loughlin : Yeah, connected next to the hospital, actually. So he can live his job even more than he usually does.
EW : The word motel always sounds kinda seedy to me, so I thought maybe we'd get to see him taking advantage of that proximity. But if he's a workaholic.... Are we not gonna see sex scenes is basically what I'm asking you.
Alex O'Loughlin : Ohmygod. No, I told them I'm happy to do whatever sex scenes they want. Either with actors or by myself. So they're getting back to me on that. That may or may not be a reason why they pick up the show. "He's obsessed with sex. No, we're not gonna pick the show up. Moonlight f---ed with him. He's kinda all weird now."
EW : You have a holding deal with CBS, so I'm assuming you had a few pilots to choose from. Why this one?
Alex O'Loughlin : It's a well-written piece that I foresee a longevity with that I didn't with the other pilots that I read. I see three years ahead, you know what I mean? I see the fifth season. I see where the characters are going to go, the potential. I loved the character. I've sat in on five open-heart surgeries now. I realized how important a story like this was before I did that stuff, but the deeper I've gone into it, the more mesmerized I am.
EW : And what's Andy's personality like?
Alex O'Loughlin : He's a bit cheeky, too. He's like a lovable scallywag.
EW : You're about to start filming the movie The Back-Up Plan with Jennifer Lopez. Tell us about that one.
Alex O'Loughlin : It's a movie about a girl who is heading toward her 40th birthday, she hasn't met The One, she really wants a baby, and so she goes and gets artificially inseminated. Right after she does this, she bumps into this guy called Stan. I play Stan. She falls in love with him. He falls in love with her. She tells him about the pregnancy after they've fallen in love and he flips out. Then it's about him coming to terms with the fact that if he loves her, he loves all of her, and working out how he's gonna deal with it. It's very funny. It's very moving. It's a terrific little film.
EW : You've met Jennifer already, obviously. How's the chemistry?
Alex O'Loughlin : The chemistry is fine. I think we're gonna be pals. You know when you sit in a room with someone and you kinda can't talk to them, or you sit in a room and you're easy with someone -- we're easy together. So I think it's gonna work. I think we're gonna be really good onscreen together. Her husband is wonderful. I met Marc and the kids, and they're great. They're a really lovely unit.
EW : You also costar in the thriller Whiteout coming out this fall. [Kate Beckinsale plays a U.S. Marshal in Antarctica in the graphic novel adaptation.]
Alex O'Loughlin : I can't remember how many years ago I shot that. I can't remember what I did in it. [Laughs] No, that's not true. I'm looking forward to seeing that. They've been cutting it for so long. That's Kate's film though. Essentially, I play the villain in that as well. A rogue-ish, rugged, Australian pilot who's a bit of a smartass. It's like Wow, what a stretch.

Alex O'Loughlin apologizes for missing BBM Convention

May '09
Hey everybody!
Thought I would drop you all a quick line and let you know that things are going really well.
I finished Three Rivers and landed the role in Jennifer Lopez' new film The Back Up Plan, which I have been madly working on preparing since I got back from Pittsburgh.
It is very exciting news about this film, and I think it will be a really good thing for me but it does mean I am going to have to miss out on other things. One of these being the Star Fury event in London which I was looking forward to very much.
I really wanted to reach out to anyone who was going to come and say hello to me there.
I know that when you buy your tickets they tell you we (the actors) may not be there if we get a job, but I'm sorry all the same. I wanted to be there too but this film I could not pass up. I hope you guys understand.
Also, thank you so much to all the people who tuned into my Criminal Minds episode the other night. It was a fun show to be a part of.
All my love to you all.

With his longish hair, chiseled facial features, and strategically unbuttoned shirt, the Moonlight star looked like he could have graced the cover of a romance novel — not just the promos for his now-canceled show. Up next is Whiteout, an Antarctica-set thriller with Kate Beckinsale. Here's hoping they find lots of excuses for O'Loughlin's parka to come off.

Alex mentions possible Moonlight movie during interview

Boston Herald ~ The Edge
Heart and ‘Minds’: ‘Moonlight’ star O’Loughlin returns to prime time as serial killer
By Mark A. Perigard
Alex O’Loughlin staked a claim to fame as the heroic vampire Mick St. John in the supernatural drama “Moonlight,” a casualty of last year’s writers strike.
Now he returns to prime time guesting on CBS’ “Criminal Minds” (tonight at 9 on WBZ, Ch. 4) as a spooky serial killer who hopes police can halt his rampage.
In “The Big Wheel,” an episode written for the actor, O’Loughlin plays Vincent, a man suffering from severe OCD. Something is triggering murderous urges within him, and he leaves clues for authorities to stop him. It’s an unusual hour with a mystery that ends with unexpected poignancy.
“I’m playing a villain, kind of,” O’Loughlin told the Herald last week in a telephone interview. “He’s a very flawed human being, but there is redemption as far as I’m concerned.
“As I’m moving into this leading-man phase of my career, you don’t even get to read roles like this very much and you don’t get offered guest-star parts like this. I’m an actor - I didn’t go to leading-man school, I went to acting school,” he said, then laughed.
The Australian has been in demand since “Moonlight” was canned last year, a decision CBS all but officially concedes was a mistake.
He is currently filming a pilot for another CBS series, “Three Rivers, in which he plays a cardiothoracic surgeon. He appears on the big screen in September in the sci-fi thriller “Whiteout,” a film he completed before “Moonlight.” He soon starts filming the romantic comedy “The Back-Up Plan” opposite Jennifer Lopez.
But he’s beloved to fans for his role as the undead detective with the heart of a romantic. And O’Loughlin returns the love.
A year away from the series, he said, “I look back at it with a broken heart for the most part. I put every part of me into that show. I was fighting for it from every angle and I was there from the very beginning.”
Given the recent success of the big-screen “Twilight” and HBO’s “True Blood,” is there any chance “Moonlight” could rise for a big-screen reunion?
“(Executive producer) Joel Silver called me right before Christmas. ‘Alex, we’re making the movie. You in?’ ‘Well, sure.’ He hung up, and I haven’t heard from him since. I don’t know what the answer to that is. I don’t know.”
As he considered all the new projects on his plate, he said, “It feels to me that ‘Moonlight’s’ disappearing out of my grasp. It’s sad, but I’m so glad to have been a part of it.”
Reminded that Sci Fi now airs “Moonlight” reruns in the same Friday time slot in which it originally aired, he said, “I still haven’t been paid for it - I think I’m still owed a residual for that.”
He laughed again.

TV Guide ~ Cheers for Alex O'Loughlin

Cheers & Jeers
by Bruce Fretts
Alex O'Loughlin: So Good He's Criminal!
Cheers to Alex O'Loughlin for his chilling--and moving--turn as a serial killer on Criminal Minds. The ex-Moonlight bloodsucker actually made Vincent, a Buffalo videographer who wrestles with his obsessively murderous impulses and bonds with a young blind boy, a sympathetic character. If CBS doesn't pick up O'Loughlin's fall pilot, Three Rivers, they're crazier than Vincent. This guy's a Simon Baker waiting to happen.

The TV Addict interviews Alex O'Loughlin
Alex O’Loughlin Talks CRIMINAL MINDS and Reveals Why MOONLIGHT Failed
While it may not be the MOONLIGHT revival that fans were hoping for (or to be more specific, that one really dedicated fan who is single-handedly keeping the “Save MOONLIGHT” campaign alive by inundating my email box with bi-weekly emails), star Alex O’Loughlin is making a return to the small screen this evening on a very special, not to mention intensily creepy episode of CRIMINAL MINDS. And here to talk about tonight’s role with your very own TV Addict, in between shooting his new CBS pilot (THREE RIVERS) and his upcoming romantic comedy opposite Jennifer Lopez is the immortal one himself, Alex O’Loughlin.
TA : Before we get into your guest appearance on tonight’s CRIMINAL MINDS, I of course have to first ask about MOONLIGHT. Were you surprised it was cancelled?
Alex O’Loughlin : Yes and no. It was a tough show for everybody in a sense that it was a high maintenance girlfriend. You love her, she’s great in bed but it takes so much of your time to appease her [laughs] that you’re left going, “Okay, is this worth the end result.” From the very beginning, there were huge amounts of changes: Five different showrunners, from the early days when it was Twilight we fired everyone, recast the show, reshot the pilot, called it MOONLIGHT, changed the showrunner. [Producer] Joel Silver and the network were butting heads constantly about the creative direction of the show. It was a lot of stuff to deal with behind the camera, maybe too much in fact. But to answer your question, I was surprised we were canceled because it was doing so well.
TA : On tonight’s CRIMINAL MINDS, you play Vincent, a serial killer who couldn’t be more different than MOONLIGHT’s Mick St. John. How did this guest appearance come about, and did you purposely look for a role that was Mick’s polar opposite?
Alex O'Loughlin : In terms of CRIMINAL MINDS specifically, the writer, Simon [Mirren] is a great friend of mine, and he said, “listen, I’m writing a role with you in mind. Would you read it,” and I did and the rest is history. I love playing different roles, the more variety the better. Once I’ve played a role I don’t want to play it again.
TA : Was there any apprehension about playing a serial killer?
Alex O'Loughlin : No apprehension because as far as I’m concerned Vincent is a redeemable character. When I first read the part, I could see how sympathetic he was. In terms of how I prepare, obviously not by going out and slaughtering anything. My main preparation with this character was the obsessive compulsive stuff because that’s the thing that rules his life and keeps him doing what he does time and time again. His OCD is at the core of his physical being.
TA : A lot of your scenes are with a young actor [Jake Cherry] who plays Stanley. Before accepting the role did the old Hollywood adage about not working with kids or animals ever cross your mind?
Alex O'Loughlin : (Laughs) That’s the old rule man, no kids or animals! But I love working with kids, I’ve never not enjoyed it. But then again maybe I’ve never had a bad kid. The thing about working with children is that there are no walls there, no barriers between you and their vanity. When you’re working with adults, we all have vanity, narcissism, whatever we have that has to do with our ego can potentially get in the way of our work. With kids there is a purity and an innocence regardless of what character they’re playing within them. And so to tap into that is just extraordinary to work with because it’s so true.
TA : What can you tell fans about the THREE RIVERS [the pilot that Alex O'Loughlin recently shot for CBS]
Alex O'Loughlin : Set in Pittsburgh, it’s a medical drama told from the perspective of the organ donor, the organ recipient and the surgical team. So every episode, someone may live and someone may die. Meaning the stakes are very high.
TA : Was it a difficult decision to sign on to what potentially could be seven years of playing the same character versus the idea of playing different characters between films and occasional TV guest appearances?
Alex O'Loughlin : Very good question and yes it his hard, it is daunting I got to say and i don’t think any actor would disagree with me. Once you’ve done a couple of films, I think the whole idea of being a movie star — well I don’t know about the ’star’ thing — but the idea of working regularly in feature films that’s my dream. To go from one character to the next and get to tell a million different stories, that would be wonderful, I’d love to be able to do that.
But the thing about television is that the job security, you cannot beat. I’m a family man and I have to think that way. But I definitely do get scared I’ll get stuck in one character and never find my way out. That other people aren’t going to trust me that I can’t find my way out to find one of their characters. So there is that.
That being said, after experiencing what I’ve experienced on both THE SHIELD and MOONLIGHT there is also joys and benefits to playing a character for a long time because you discover things and get to live out things you discovered about the character. There have been so many times in my life when I’ll finish a play or a film and a week later I’ll wake up and say, “Ah F*ck, that’s what I should have done with that scene, that’s the missing element.” And so in TV you get to live that out and discover so much more it’s great. but it’s definitely a catch 22 situation.
TA : Have you started shooting The Back-Up Plan?
Alex O'Loughlin : I start shooting in about a minute!
TA : Aside from the opportunity to work with Jennifer Lopez, what attracted you to the project?
Alex O'Loughlin : Nothing, just J.LO… No, just joking. The film is great, it’s funny, well written and I’ve never really done a lead role in a romantic comedy over here yet in America. Also, the director’s a pal, the great Alan Poul, who has a really smart clear vision for the film. And Jennifer being attached didn’t hurt.

CRIMINAL MINDS airs Wednesday nights on CBS at 9PM (8PM on CTV in Canada)
Alex O'Loughlin talks with Entertainment Tonight

Alex O'Loughlin: From Vampire to Serial Killer
"Moonlight" hottie Alex O'Loughlin returns to CBS tonight for a guest-starring role on an episode of "Criminal Minds," in which a serial killer sends the team a videotape detailing one of his crimes. On the tape, he includes a plea, asking them to help him stop his killing spree. But first, ET checks in with Alex to get his take on his turn to the dark side.
ET: This role is quite a departure from Mick. How do you think your fans will react to it?
Alex O'Loughlin: How do you think they will react?
ET: I think they may be disappointed. You are not as sexy as you were in "Moonlight."
Alex O'Loughlin: There is more of that coming up. There is plenty of that.
ET: Is that why the part appealed to you, because it was so different?
Alex O'Loughlin: Absolutely. I didn't go to leading man school. I went to drama school. I don't want to play the same role, every role I get. The other thing is, my true fans, emphasis on the word true, will follow me wherever I go. I thought it was a well-earned breather between roles.
ET: Did you do any research on serial killers?
Alex O'Loughlin: Not so much on serial killers, as on OCD. I did a lot of research on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
ET: Right, because this character had to open doors twice and not step on cracks.
Alex O'Loughlin: There is more to it than that. OCD is an anxiety disorder. The patterns that people have ... you yourself might have some patterns that you are not aware of. A lot of us do. The patterns that people have in their daily life, such as putting their sunglasses on with both hands, or the way they tie their shoes. There are patterns that we have in real life that ease an anxiety that is inside of us. This is an extreme case of it.
ET: CBS seems to love you. You are doing the new pilot, "Three Rivers," for them. Can you describe your role and talk about the series?
Alex O'Loughlin: We have already done the pilot. The character's name is Andy Yablonski. It is based on a real-life character called Gonzo Gonzales-Stawinski, who is a cardio-thoracic surgeon I have been shadowing for the past couple of months. He has become a great friend of mine.
My character is a cardio-thoracic surgeon. He is a staff surgeon, but he is being preened to become head of surgery at Three Rivers Clinic, set in Pittsburgh. It is called Three Rivers because there are three rivers in Pittsburgh: The Allegheny, the Monongahela and the Ohio, but it is also told from three perspectives: The donor's perspective and the grieving family, the recipient and their family and the surgical team.
It is very different than "Moonlight." It is not about vampires, but there are equal amounts of blood as my last show.
ET: When you worked on "Moonlight," you worked with the American Red Cross for blood donation.
Alex O'Loughlin: That is something I am hoping to take on to my next project. I want to take it to another level and work with Donate Life America, which I will be working with in affiliation with Gonzo and CBS. I want to put something together and do something special for that.
ET: With 'Twilight' now and "True Blood," do you think that "Moonlight" was just one year too early?
Alex O'Loughlin: Many people say that. If they put it on now, maybe less people would have watched it because people are watching the other vampire projects. I just think they pulled it off too early. I think it is a show that took a minute to find its legs, but once we found our legs, our numbers were consistent and we won some awards. We were doing really well and then they canceled it.
ET: Nina Tassler said at the TCA [Television Critics Association] press tour that when they studied the fan reaction to the series, you tested better than the show.
Alex O'Loughlin: That is lovely to hear. It is always funny when you hear things like that, because what do you say besides thank you? I don't get it. I get up in the morning and my hair is all hanging in my face and poking up on one side, I need to shave and I look older than I am. When I stagger into the kitchen to get my breakfast, I don't think, "Oh, look at that handsome guy. Look at that talented special creature."
"The Big Wheel" episode of "Criminal Minds" airs tonight at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Question : "Do you think CBS regrets the decision to cancel Moonlight after only ONE season?"

TV Guide ~ Ask Matt
Question : Now that the movie Twilight is so popular and the HBO show True Blood has generated much interest, do you think CBS regrets the decision to cancel Moonlight after only ONE season? I am so glad I TiVo'd the finale which enables me to get my Alex O'Loughlin and Sophia Myles fix. It was such an interesting love story. I was reminded of Beauty and the Beast. The finale also left the door open for more story, such as the list of vampires that the ADA mysteriously received! Shame on you, CBS, for poor decision making! —Twyla B.
Matt Roush : If CBS were doing as poorly as, say, NBC in prime time, my answer to this would be yes. As it is, CBS is doing so well most nights that it has little incentive to express public regret about much of anything. Still, I’m betting they look back at Moonlight as a lost opportunity, given the deep and passionate following shows of this sort tend to generate. That’s certainly how I regard it. One thing that isn’t in doubt is CBS’s desire to stay in business with Alex O’Loughlin. He’s appearing in a Criminal Minds episode in late April, and he’s been cast in a new medical pilot for CBS. One way or another, he’ll be back. Just minus fangs.

TV Guide ~ Matt Mitovich chats with Mr. Alex O'Loughlin

Today's News: Our Take
Alex O'Loughlin Previews Criminal Turn, Opens Up About His Post-Moonlight "Tailspin"
by Matt Webb Mitovich
'Alex O'Loughlin says of his Criminal Minds appearance, "Yeah, it's a little different." '
Can a serial killer played by Alex O'Loughlin slake his thirst for murder? The star of TV's too-short-lived Moonlight talked to TVGuide.com about his compelling guest spot on CBS' Criminal Minds (Wednesday, 9 pm/ET). Plus: Why Alex O's fans should give his new medical drama a chance.
TVGuide.com: Where have ya been, man? We had a long stretch there, after Moonlight went bye-bye, where the fans were missing you terribly.
Alex O'Loughlin: Yeah, I didn't work for like 10 months. I went back to Australia for a minute, and then I went and sat in a forest for a couple months and got my thoughts together. I did a bunch of writing.... Essentially, I went into a bit of a tailspin and left the country, to Mexico, out of phone range. I was kind of upset.
TVGuide.com: Well, nearly a year later, not a week goes by that I don't get a reader asking not if but when that show is coming back. Exactly what measures were taken to possibly save Moonlight?
O'Loughlin: I don't know exactly what happened after they cut it. I know they talked to CW, they talked to TNT ... a bunch of people.
TVGuide.com: Is there anything you can share about what was going to happen next on the show?
O'Loughlin: What I do know is that there was going to be some really cool stuff going on with Eric Winters' character, [the ADA] who was gathering the list of vampires.
TVGuide.com: Turning to the April 29 episode of Criminal Minds: [Series creator] Ed Bernero told me that your serial killer reaches out to the BAU for "help" — and he put "help" in quotation marks.
O'Loughlin: There are a few twists, and I can't tell you what they are. But the thing that I love about this episode is that we find a very disturbed character — a guy whose life is run by obsession and by compulsion, and he can't stop this pattern of killing. But he wants salvation. He finds a child, and the child represents perhaps the last bit of innocence within himself. This is what I drew from the character when I first read the script, and I hope that's what we see when the show plays. The episode was written by a friend of mine, Simon Mirren, who is very, very talented.
TVGuide.com: Paget Brewster told me that you had the women on the set all atwitter.
O'Loughlin: Oh, boo. Come on. I must have missed that! [Laughs]
TVGuide.com: You went from taking lives on Criminal Minds to saving lives on the CBS drama pilot Three Rivers. Sell me on the concept.
O'Loughlin: It's set in Pittsburgh, where the Monongahela, Allegheny, and Ohio rivers meet, and it's told from three perspectives — the organ donor, the organ recipient, and the surgical team. That of course means that in every episode, someone dies and someone potentially lives, so it's always very high-stakes. The show is really well-written and smart and sensitive. It's a beautiful little hour of TV.
TVGuide.com: I just know that some of your Moonlight fans are concerned that the premise, on paper, doesn't sound dynamic enough for their Alex O'Loughlin.
O'Loughlin: It's absolutely dynamic enough. I plead with my Moonlight fans to give this show a chance if they let me give it a chance. I can't do Moonlight again — it's finished. The bottom line is that my true fans will follow me where I go.
TVGuide.com: I take it that your Three Rivers character, Dr. Andy Yablonski, is not Australian.
O'Loughlin: [Laughs] No, he's not. They offered me the role, and I was like, "Can I at least audition as an Australian?" "G'day! Do you need a new heart?"
TVGuide.com: And they weren't buying.
O'Loughlin: No, they weren't.
TVGuide.com: Was Three Rivers the first project that CBS sent you as part of your talent deal with them?
O'Loughlin: No, no. They had a bunch of other things.
TVGuide.com: Did they try to add you to any existing series?
O'Loughlin: Mmmm.... There was talk about a couple bits and pieces that we didn't take seriously.
TVGuide.com: When are you doing the Jennifer Lopez movie?
O'Loughlin: That films in like two weeks. She plays a 40-year-old girl who hasn't found the one and wants to have a baby, so she gets artificially inseminated. Then she meets the guy of her dreams — and that's me!

New TV Squad interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Oooooooo.... I totally agree that the Vampyre film Alex recommends ("Let the Right One In") is a must see!
Moonlight's Alex O'Loughlin talks guest spots, TV pilots, and vampire smackdowns
by Mike Moody
Moonlight is history, but Alex O'Loughlin is still in demand. The actor, who garnered a huge fan base playing Moonlight's good guy vampire Mick St. John, returns to TV this week. O'Loughlin will guest star as a conflicted serial killer on CBS's Criminal Minds on Wednesday.
For O'Loughlin fans, the guest appearance is only a tease. What they really want to see is their favorite Aussie actor starring in a new weekly series. They might get their wish if CBS picks up Three Rivers, a drama pilot starring O'Loughlin as an organ transplant surgeon.
I got a chance to speak with O'Loughlin this week. We chatted about his new projects, his love for the vampire genre, and how Mick St. John could totally kick Kate Beckinsale's ass. Click through for the conversation, plus preview images and video from the actor's appearance on Criminal Minds.
Mike Moody : Moonlight got the axe, but you've landed a high-profile guest spot on CBS's Criminal Minds and you're starring in a new pilot for the network, Three Rivers. How does it feel to be so in demand at a major network?
Alex O'Loughlin : It feels good, Mike. It feels good. I mean, as an artist, you spend a lot of your life maybe not working and training, reading and really trying to further yourself. And the reality is a lot of us never really get to make a living at it. So it brings me great joy to be in demand. It's a lovely feeling. I've worked hard for a long time to be able to choose what I want to do ... It's a lovely feeling.
Mike Moody : You play a serial killer who's possibly seeking redemption in Criminal Minds. Can you draw any parallels from that character to Mick St. John from Moonlight, or is this something completely different?
Alex O'Loughlin : It's definitely different, which is what drew me to the part. With Mick St John, the only thing the two have in common is that they are both in control of what they're doing, but Mick was more in control than this guy. This character has a crippling case of obsessive-compulsive disorder, which now runs his entire life. He's had to stop working to maintain his anxiety, and it takes him all day and every moment to control it. And the killing is part of that as well. It's a form of control for him, and yes, he is seeking redemption.
Mike Moody : Did you study the effects of obsessive-compulsive disorder before taking on this role?
Alex O'Loughlin : Yeah, I actually had it. I think a lot of us have a certain degree of it, I know I do, but I'm not crippled by it. When I was a young boy in elementary school I was quite a blatant example of a child with OCD, and I remember how it used to make me feel and how difficult it was. I also did a lot of reading and I studied the effects of OCD on children and how it continues from childhood to adulthood if left untreated.
Mike Moody : Let's talk about Three Rivers, the CBS pilot you're starring in. The character you play is based on a remarkable real-life surgeon, Dr. Gonzalo Gonzales-Stawinski. What was it like getting to know the doctor and playing a character based on him?
Alex O'Loughlin : Well, I don't get star struck by many people, but I'm completely star struck by this guy. I love this guy so much. He's become such a great friend of mine. He's a rock star, he's a hero, and he's so cool. I spent many hours shoulder to shoulder with him in the operating room, and I've never met anyone like him before. I've really been affected by him. He's a great source of inspiration to many people. He gives life to people, and he's a wonderful, funny guy and really enjoyable to be around.
Mike Moody : Three Rivers can be called a "show about doctors," but it seems to be more than that. What's unique about this project?
Alex O'Loughlin : It's not a show about doctors, it's about transplant surgery, and it's called Three Rivers because it takes place where the Allegheny River and Monongahela River meet with the Ohio River in Pittsburgh. And it's also called Three Rivers because it's about three perspectives of transplant surgery: the recipient, the donor and the surgical team. That's what unique about it.
Mike Moody : Do you think it will appeal to Moonlight fans?
Alex O'Loughlin : I think it's going to appeal to a lot of people. It's a different genre. I love the vampire genre, though. I always have. Actually, I want to recommend a film, Let the Right One In ... It's directed by Tomas Alfredson.
Mike Moody : I've seen it. It's great.
Alex O'Loughlin : You've seen it?
Mike Moody : Yeah, I liked it.
Alex O'Loughlin : Oh, it's f*ckin' brilliant. Yeah, I'm a huge vampire fan, but (Three Rivers) is a different show, and I love it. It's really smart, it's grown-up, it's clever, it's funny and sensitive, it's got everything.
Mike Moody : You've been involved with a few causes, like the American Red Cross, that seem to stem from the roles you take on. What are your hopes or goals for Three Rivers, not on an entertainment level, but on a social or awareness level?
Alex O'Loughlin : My hope is to become involved with Donate Life America or an equally large non-profit organization to educate about organ donation. I want to be in a position where we can leverage the philanthropical aspects of what we do with TV spots, PSA's and campaigns.
Mike Moody : You have a few big movies coming up, including White Out with Kate Beckinsale, who was in the Underworld films. Did you two trade vampire stories on the set?
Alex O'Loughlin : A little bit, yeah. It was more like, "Who was the better vampire?" I was the better vampire! No, I was the better vampire! No, I'm a boy, I was better and I'm stronger than you!" (Laughs) We went back and forth, and I think she finally said, "You're an idiot" and walked away. But the bottom line is Mick St. John would kill what's her name, I don't even remember her name, from the (Underworld) movie! Mick St. John would kill her!
Mike Moody : So you're obviously a big fan of the vampire genre. Is there any chance you'll return to genre television or maybe do a genre film anytime soon?
Alex O'Loughlin : Sure, why not genre film? Why don't we do a big film? I'd love to do more genre work. I don't know about anytime soon, but it's not out of the question for me.
Mike Moody : Audiences really responded to your onscreen relationship with Sophia Myles on Moonlight. Any chance you might work with her again?
Alex O'Loughlin : Yeah, maybe. There's nothing set up, but she's a friend, and you never know. It's a small world and we have a scarcely small acting fraternity, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. She's great.
Mike Moody : We look forward to seeing you on Criminal Minds next week. Anything you want to say to your fans about the show?
Alex O'Loughlin : Tune in. Come on! Show up! It's a good episode. I think you'll like it.

Ask Matt answers a fan's questions about Alex O'Loughlin's Three Rivers project
Ask Matt
Question : There's been a lot of buzz about the Three Rivers pilot. I don't think I've ever heard this much about a pilot being filmed before. Is this an indication that it has a higher than normal chance of being picked up for the fall schedule? Do the networks push certain pilots to the top of the heap for better chances of being chosen? Alex O'Loughlin fans (me included) are chewing their nails off waiting for news on new pick-ups. Any inside news about this? The show sounds fascinating beyond the fact that it will star our handsome and talented Aussie hunk. —Cindy R
Matt Roush : The buzz about Three Rivers is magnified by the fandom for Alex O’Loughlin. Nothing wrong with that, but keep it in perspective. Industry buzz, including in the Hollywood Reporter just this week, indicates the show is a “strong contender” for fall, no doubt enhanced by the star’s enthusiastic following, especially since the demise of Moonlight on the same network. (There’s a reason he was given a high-profile guest role on Criminal Minds in an episode airing next week.) Is all of this enough to clinch Three Rivers an on-air spot? Maybe, maybe not. For me, the show makes some sense because with ER gone, there’s an opening for a new medical drama with sexy leads. The transplant-surgeon angle also sounds promising, but just the very idea of Alex O’Loughlin around blood (even if it’s being pumped into patients instead of being drained from necks) no doubt has millions swooning. Hard not to see why.

TV Guide Magazine ~ Alex O'Loughlin Resurrected!

Alex O'Loughlin Resurrected!
by Lisa Bernhard
Not every actor’s return to TV merits a countdown clock. But check out Alex O’Loughlin’s MySpace page, where a flashing display reads: "23 days, 16 hours, 47 minutes, 38 seconds until my guest spot on Criminal Minds."
A little over the top for a one-week gig? Not to the millions of obsessed, feverish (and mostly female) fans who hunger for the mere sight of him—the ones who swooned over his sexy vampire, PI Mick St. John, on the CBS drama Moonlight. When the show was canceled last May after just one season, they protested. Not just in e-mails and chat rooms, but also in ads in Variety and on the backs of buses.
“I had never seen a group of people fall so deeply in love with a character I’d been a part of,” says O’Loughlin. CBS didn’t revive the show, but the network still felt the love for O’Loughlin, giving him a development deal for a new series as well as the juicy guest shot on Minds.
In the episode airing April 29, the Australian actor plays a serial killer. A smart move for a sex symbol? “It’s funny you should mention that,” says O’Loughlin, 32. “This lovely lady, a fan, came up to me the other day and asked exactly that. And I said, ‘Hang on a minute—if the character has no path to redemption, then it’s difficult for me to play. But this guy, at the end, breaks through his own wall and touches another person. It’s a transition to epiphany.’ If people can’t see that, I’m not doing my job.”
From all accounts, O’Loughlin does his job well. Says Minds coexec producer Simon Mirren, “You know it’s a good [performance] when the crew starts hanging around the monitor. They came up to me and said, ‘This guy’s great.’ From my point of view, the more an actor can inhabit something that’s the opposite of him, the more producers can be surprised by it.”
That may be why O’Loughlin is following Minds with yet another sharp turn, as cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Andy Yablonski in the CBS fall pilot Three Rivers. Costarring Julia Ormond (CSI: NY), the Pittsburgh-based drama focuses on an organ transplant team, with O’Loughlin’s role inspired by real-life surgeon Dr. Gonzalo “Gonzo” Gonzales-Stawinski. “I absolutely love him,” says O’Loughlin of Gonzo. “I’ve sat in on five open-heart surgeries with him in the last few weeks. And what I realize is, I play a very, very important person. It’s completely changed my life.”
Known for taking work home with him (“I walk in the shoes of the character 24 hours a day”), O’Loughlin also takes his work to heart. While shooting Moonlight, he became a spokesperson for blood donation with the American Red Cross. For Three Rivers, he’s hoping to work with Donate Life America, an organization promoting organ and tissue donation.
Giving back comes naturally to a guy who gets so much—especially from his fans, who shower him with gifts, including a humidor loaded with expensive cigars. As for his personal life, O’Loughlin dated Aussie actress Holly Valance (Prison Break) for four years, but “we’re having a time-out,” he says. Hear that, ladies?
Another treat for fans: O’Loughlin costars in this fall’s feature film “Whiteout,” opposite Kate Beckinsale. The Antarctica-set thriller casts him as a “young, bold smart-ass.” (“Omigod, what a stretch,” he jokes.) And get this—in one scene, O’Loughlin runs across the ice, wearing only boots and a furry hat. Start the countdown clock now!

Alex O'Loughlin in talks to join cast of Jennifer Lopez movie

Alex O'Loughlin eyes 'Back-Up Plan'
Jennifer Lopez stars in CBS Films' rom-com
By Borys Kit
Alex O'Loughlin, who starred in the cult vampire TV show "Moonlight," is in negotiations to nab the romantic male lead role opposite Jennifer Lopez in CBS Films' "The Back-Up Plan."
Written by Kate Angelo, the rom-com centers on a single woman (Lopez) who turns to artificial insemination to answer her ticking clock, only to see her backup plan turned on its side when the man of her dreams shows up on the same day that her pregnancy test results come back positive.
Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing through their Escape Artists banner. Alan Poul is directing.
Shooting is scheduled to begin May 11 in Los Angeles, making it the second CBS Films to go into production (after the untitled Crowley project, a medical drama starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser).
The Australian actor, repped by ICM and Andy Freeman, appeared in "August Rush" and next toplines with Kate Beckinsale the comic book adaptation "Whiteout," produced by Joel Silver and being released by Warners this year.
O'Loughlin, who played immortal detective Mick St. John on "Moonlight," recently booked a starring role in the CBS television pilot "Three Rivers."

A note to his fans from Alex O'Loughlin

Hello from Pittsburgh
Hi everybody.
So I know you have all been anxious to know exactly what I'm up to, and I'm sorry it's taken me a minute to get back to you but things are now clear.
As some of you know I did a little guest role on Criminal Minds which was a lot of fun. I got to work with some great friends and terrific people and I had a really good experience. The episode is called The Big Wheel. I hope you enjoy it.
I am currently in Pittsburgh filming a new pilot for CBS called Three Rivers. It is about as different from Moonlight as anything could possibly be (laughing right now) but that being said I sure hope all you "die hard" vampire fans come with me on this journey!
Three Rivers is a wonderful story about donors, recipients and surgeons in the world of transplant surgery and of how all these people's lives are affected on a daily basis by the miracles and devastations involved in surgery today.
As I'm sure you can appreciate I have been totally consumed with my research and preparation for this role, and along the way I have discovered a secret passion within myself for cardio thoracic surgery! Who knew?!! ;) It is very interesting, very important and I believe this story we are about to embark on will be something you will very much enjoy being a part of.
I hope you are all healthy and well and until we speak again...wish me luck!!
All my love,
Alex O'Loughlin

Details about Alex O'Loughlin's new television project ~ Three Rivers

I am concerned that CBS has three medical themed pilots vying to be included in the Fall season. At least, Alex's program is being produced by CBS Paramount. Networks have more of an incentive to keep & work with a series that comes from a division of their own company. Plus, Three Rivers has something the others do not ~ Alex :)
The article mentions that Jericho's Skeet Ulrich is also signed to do a new project for CBS.
The Hollywood Reporter
Alex O'Loughlin navigates 'Three Rivers'
'Moonlight' star returning to CBS with medical drama pilot
By Nellie Andreeva
Alex O'Loughlin is returning to CBS.
The "Moonlight" star is in negotiations to star on the network's medical drama pilot "Three Rivers."
The project, from CBS Paramount, is about organ transplants seen through three points of view: the doctors, the donors and the recipients.
O'Loughlin will play Dr. Andy Yablonski, the workaholic head of the team of organ donor transplants who is separated from his wife and lives in a motel near the hospital.
"Three Rivers" is one of three medical pilots CBS has greenlighted this season with the hopes to launch one as a series in the fall. The other two are "Miami Trauma" and the more family-centric "The Eastmans."
Aussie O'Loughlin, repped by ICM and manager Andy Freedman, developed a cult following with his role as sexy vampire Mick St. John on CBS' "Moonlight."
He joins Skeet Ulrich, the star of another CBS drama with a other huge cult hit, "Jericho," who also signed up to topline a drama pilot for the network.
Ulrich is starring in the mystery "Back."

Criminal Minds' Paget Brewster talks about Alex O'Loughlin during interview

Today's News: Our Take
Criminal Minds' Paget Brewster Gets a Devil of a Storyline
by Matt Mitovich
This week on CBS' Criminal Minds (Wednesdays at 9 pm/ET), Paget Brewster steps front and center when a rogue priest conjures up demons from Prentiss' past. Brewster gave us a preview of the episode, as well as mooned over upcoming guest star Alex O'Loughlin.
TVGuide.com : Have you shot the episode with Alex O'Loughlin (Moonlight) yet?
Brewster : Oh, Alex.... Alex sets all the girls into a twitter. Various departments were vying for Alex's attention. We just finished that this past Saturday morning, at 5:30 am.
TVGuide.com : Did Prentiss get a "moment" with Alex?
Brewster : No, No.... Prentiss had no moments with Alex! [Laughs] He's a cutie-pie! There's a little kid, Jake Cherry (Desperate Housewives), in that episode, and he's amazing too. All our guest stars are extraordinary, which we need to remember. We're there every day, and we have long-standing jokes with the crew, so we need to remember there is someone standing next to us, acting [as if] they're about to die or their child has been murdered. They're working up all this emotion, and we're hiding fart machines from each other. We're the most childish set, and we love it!

Alex O'Loughlin and Holly Valance have broken up

Holly Valance splits
By Ros Reines
LA stars Holly Valance and Alex O'Loughlin have split after being an item for nearly four years. The couple, there for each other throughout their careers in America, have unfortunately grown apart.
Former Neighbours star Valance has seen her fortunes change as her recording career gave way to acting.
Most recently, she was in the thriller Taken with Liam Neeson, but she has also scored guest roles in television shows including Prison Break and Entourage.
Although O'Loughlin's vampire series Moonlight was taken off the air, he used it to catapult himself into film roles, starring in the forthcoming Whiteout with Kate Beckinsale.

Alex O'Loughlin guest starring on the CBS show, Criminal Minds

Another bit of information, the entertainment reporters @ TV Guide have asked again for any fresh scoop about Alex's possible tv project. Still no news, unfortunately.
Alex O'Loughlin Takes a Bite Out of Crime
by Matt Mitovich
It's not the series that long ago was promised to him through a CBS talent deal, but it's something.
Alex O'Loughlin is returning to CBS by way of a guest-starring gig on Criminal Minds.
The Moonlight star, a show rep confirms for TVGuide.com, will play a serial killer in a late-April episode that's got something extra going for it besides a dreamy Aussie. The outing will be told from the point of view of the baddie, as his latest crime and its ensuing manhunt unfolds.
At last month's Winter TCA Press Tour, CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler had indicated that O'Loughlin fans might see him back on their screens soon, though the ideal, of course, is for the actor to front his own series again. But we just checked in (again) for any movement on O'Loughlin's talent deal with the Eye, and there is still nothing to report.
Baby steps, people. Baby steps.

Alex O'Loughlin to appear on episode of Criminal Minds

The Ausiello Files
Exclusive: 'Moonlight' vamp Alex O'Loughlin returns to CBS
Finally, I have a bone to throw all you inconsolable Moonlight fans.
The dead drama's central blood sucker, Alex O'Loughlin, is returning to CBS in an upcoming episode of Criminal Minds, sources confirm to me exclusively
The change-of-pace hour, which is tentatively scheduled to air in April, will track a case from the POV of a serial killer, played by O'Loughlin.
This is O'Loughlin's first leap back into TV since Moonlight was laid to rest nine months ago. At press tour last month, CBS president Nina Tassler -- who signed the Aussie hunk to a development deal in August -- hinted that we may see him back on the network "soon" in a new project.
What say you, Moonlight fans? Happy to see O'Loughlin sinking his teeth into another meaty TV role -- even if he's not literally doing so? Sound off below!

US Weekly Magazine talks about Moonlight
Here's what they had to say..........
Moonlight Television Series
Before True Blood and Twilight, there was the CBS vampire drama ~ which died in 2008 after just one season ( despite a rabid following ). Sexy Alex O'Loughlin charms as Mick St. John, a melancholy private detective, who moonlights as a bloodsucker. The case and mythology mildly intrigue, while the cast has, yes, serious bite.

Do you want Alex O'Loughlin on the NCIS spinoff show?

TV Guide ~ Today's News: Our Take
CBS Boss Confirms NCIS Spin-off, Offers Alex O'Loughlin Update
by Matt Mitovich
You can never have too much of a good thing. Having proven that with a string of successful CSIs, CBS now is looking to capitalize on NCIS' strongest season ever by spinning a new series off of what was essentially a JAG spin-off.
"It's happening. We're doing it," CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler confirmed Wednesday at the TCA Winter Press Tour. "We've seen an outline. We're in great shape, and we're just waiting to get the script. But we're going to cast, and we're going to shoot."
It's yet to be cast, you say? Here's a provocative thought. CBS long ago inked a development deal with Alex O'Loughlin, who had cultivated quite a fan following as the star of the (too) short-lived Moonlight. Perhaps the Aussie hunk could return to the fore as the front man for NCIS 2? Asked separately about the status of O'Loughlin's deal with the Eye, Tassler said, "Hopefully we will [see him soon]."
As for the origin of the NCIS spin-off — which, sources say, will simply follow the cases of a team situated elsewhere — Tassler said that just as the Mark Harmon starrer "was [born of] an episode of JAG, this will be an episode of NCIS" airing later this season.
So, who's with me on the Alex O'Loughlin/NCIS 2 merger?!

CBS President, Nina Tassler, talks about Alex O'Loughlin

CBS Scoop
by Kristin Dos Santos
Last but not least, although Nina Tassler says how in love she is with Alex O'Loughlin—just like so many of you!—he has still not been cast on a new CBS series. Says Tassler, "Hopefully we will [place him on a show]. We do have an idea, so hopefully we will see that soon."

BuddyTV ~ Blood Lust: 13 Dangerously Sexy Bloodsuckers

Others on the BuddyTV Top 13 ~ Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) from Twilight, Santanico Pandemonium (Salma Hayek) in From Dusk Til Dawn, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) of True Blood, Spike (James Marsters) in Buffy & Angel, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) of the Underworld films, Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) from one of my favorite Vampyre movies The Hunger, etc.
Blood Lust: 13 Dangerously Sexy Bloodsuckers
by Don Williams
With Twilight mania at an all time high, we're counting down the 13 hot vampires we'd happily stick our necks out for.
#10 Mick St. John (Moonlight)
Mick St. John may not be the first vampire detective to hit the small screen, but he's the one we'd most want investigating our case. Mick's desire to hold on to his humanity makes him a kinder, gentler bloodsucker, and the fact that he refuses to hunt innocent women and children makes us swoon. If only he could do something about his crazy ex-wife, he'd be the perfect partner.

Alex O'Loughlin on list of "50 Hottest Hunks - Ever"

Other gentlemen keeping Alex company on the list...... Jared Leto, George Clooney, Chace Crawford, Jon Hamm, Taye Diggs, Tom Welling, Johnny Depp, Jensen Ackles, Wentworth Miller, Eric Dane, David Boreanaz, Michael Landon, Gary Dourdan, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Blair Underwood, Matthew Fox, Taylor Kitsch, Josh Holloway, Patrick Dempsey........
Counting Down the Sexiest Men on TV
49. Alex O'Loughlin
Shows We Loved Him On:
· 'The Shield' (2007)
· 'Moonlight' (2007-08)
Hunk Factor: The Australian native first caught TV fans' eyes as a well-intentioned, and drop-dead gorgeous, new member of the Strike Team on 'The Shield.' But he really sunk his teeth into the role of vampire/private investigator Mick St. John on CBS' short-lived drama 'Moonlight.' Despite his blood-thirsty nature, Mick fell in love with a mortal -- reporter Beth -- and was all the more endearing because he was a vamp with a conscience; he didn't hunt women, kids or innocents.

Thank you for the marvelous messages :)

I try to keep my posts focused on the subject that brought you to my blog and not on personal stuff. In this case.... I realized that I need to let you know what has been occupying much of my concentration.
My doctor sent me to have a routine test recently. Something odd was noticed. The concern is discolored areas that can indicate cancerous cells. Gulp! In order to find out if I have cancer or not, I had to have a full body scan. Now, I'm dealing with the hard part of waiting for the results.
On top of that ~ A few weeks ago, I introduced you to our new rescued puppy. Jasper disappeared from our yard :( We love our dog soooo much. Jasper even has a blog.... http://jasperthedoggie.blogspot.com Breaking my heart!
Thankfully, life hasn't been all gloom & doom. Several dear friends came to town (from Florida, Texas, England, etc), we discovered two local bands/performers that rock, celebrated birthdays, danced the night away until the place shut down and so on. Things like this are what keep us going through tough spots, right?
I haven't had much time for online fun. When I do log on, your fantastic messages are very uplifting :)
I hope to have good news to share with you soon. That will make us extremely happy.... at least, until the medical bills begin pouring in *grin*

"Alex O'Loughlin is a major TV star waiting to explode"

We want to keep Alex on the media radar!
ASK MATT
Question : I am concerned regarding the ratings for Pushing Daisies and the very real possibility of this show being canceled. While there are no shows on this year that will cause me agony like Moonlight's cancellation did last year, I think Pushing Daisies is a really unique show unlike anything else on television. What do you think of its chances to at least make it for a full season? As I mentioned, I still mourn the loss of Moonlight. While my love of the show was always about the whole show and not a particular actor, I have noticed that Jason Dohring will be on a new HBO show. What is going on with Alex O'Loughlin? CBS signed him to a talent contract and he was supposed to be working on something, but there's been no mention of anything recently, particularly from CBS. Do you know anything? With all his fans, CBS is making a major mistake not getting him on something. — Faye
Matt Roush : Right now, I'm just hoping ABC will air all 13 of the Pushing Daisies episodes that were initially ordered. I'll worry about the rest later, but I think you have to consider it a long shot to make it to the end of the season, let alone beyond, unless someone high up is really looking out for the show. As for Alex O'Loughlin: Haven't heard anything, but to me, an even bigger mistake than not yet having announced his next project would be to rush him into a project before they've found the right one. (And while the early demise of The Ex List no doubt has the I-told-you-so'ers chomping for a Moonlight comeback, that's beyond unlikely.) TV is always at its worst when it's more about the deal than the show, and locking a star into a show if it's not the right fit for either the star or the network is a recipe for disaster. But make no mistake: Alex O'Loughlin is a major TV star waiting to explode, and given the success Simon Baker is finally having with The Mentalist, it should be only a matter of time before O'Loughlin finds a suitable vehicle to take full advantage of his undeniable charisma.

Still no details for Alex O'Loughlin's next project

Today's News: Our Take
Question : Surely there must be some word on what Alex O'Loughlin will be doing next for CBS. Right? — Lauren
Matt : I know the Alex O fans are waiting with bated breath to see what his announced-long-ago talent deal will deliver, so I tried an "end run" and picked the brain of his Aussie pal, Yvonne Strahovski. (Remember, her mom works with his dad back Down Under.) Alas, the Chuck beauty told me, "I haven't spoken to Alex in ages. I owe him a call. You know as much as I do!" O'Sigh. Officially, CBS has "nothing to report at this time."

Alex O'Loughlin talks about Moonlight & other projects ~ past & future

Alex O'Loughlin Interview
As a huge Moonlight fan, it was a top mission of mine (ever since Hollywood The Write Way was created) to interview Australian born actor, Alex O'Loughlin. After CBS cancelled Moonlight earlier this year, thousands of fans were left wondering what that meant for Alex O'Loughlin. How soon would it be until we saw him as a lead on the small screen? This past August, fans got their answer - well sort of. Keep reading to see what our favorite vampire has to say about his upcoming projects, Moonlight, and more.
Tell us about the one year deal you recently signed with CBS.
Alex O'Loughlin : Moonlight came to an end, which was very sad and then I just went away for a couple of weeks to Mexico. When I came home, there were a few offers from different studios and networks. The deal that sat the best for me was what CBS was offering. They were open to negotiation points that I wanted to bring in, which was great and I discussed where I would like to go with my career. Since then, I have been developing an original series with executive producer and head writer on Criminal Minds, Simon Mirren that we have been putting together under Mark Gordon. It is an original concept that we are in the middle of pitching at the moment. It will be a one hour drama that I will be producing and starring in. It is a story of redemption but from a very different point of view.
What is the plot for your next film, Whiteout and explain your character?
Alex O'Loughlin : It is based on a graphic novel. I play an Australian pilot living on a base with a group of people. I am an ambiguous character, I am not quite a cheeky guy, who is up to a little more than we know. It is directed by Dominic Sena, produced by Joel Silver, and I worked with such a great group of people. It is a thriller set in Antartica. I am very excited to see it, I actually have seen very little of it so far.
Do you remember the day that you found out you got the role for Moonlight?
Alex O'Loughlin : Yes, I do! I was in Montreal and I got a call from Joel Silver. He said that he needed me to get on a plane and come to NY immediately. I think it was 5pm and the stores were closing at 5:30pm so I had to race into town and get a suit. I had to book a flight in about 45 minutes, get on a plane to NY and then as I got to NY I was told that the cast from the Pilot had been let go. You know what, I am talking about when I found out the show got picked up, not when I found out that I got the role.
That is okay, you can talk about whatever you want.
Alex O'Loughlin : (laughs) So I didn’t have a cast! I also found out that they were no longer calling it Twilight, they would be calling it Moonlight and there were a few changes in the script. Then I found myself standing on stage at Carnegie Hall and the police did not know who we were or what we were doing…and that was the beginning of Moonlight.
Walk us through the last day of filming Moonlight.
Alex O'Loughlin : I kind of blocked it from my memory a bit. The last few days kind of string together for me. They were very busy and we were shooting like mad, finishing at all hours of the morning. The sun would come up and we had been there for 18, 19, 20 hours. The end of the last day everyone was kind of dragging themselves to their cars and leaving to go home and get some sleep. I wish I could tell you it was a little more poetic but we believed that we were coming back. It was sad.
What characteristics did you bring towards your character that were not displayed in the script?
Alex O'Loughlin : I tried to bring a sense of humor and a sense of irony. People around him did not understand the irony in situation. I tried to bring more of a passion to him. All of that being said, this was very well written. The writers and original creators were amazing. There were so many different avenues that I could have gone with my character but their writing, it made my job easy so I have to thank them a lot.
Tell me what you would have liked to see happen, not what you think would have happened if there was a Season 2 of Moonlight as far as the Mick, Beth, Coraline love triangle.
Alex O'Loughlin : I would have liked to have seen Mick & Beth start exploring a relationship together and see where that goes. Also throw Coraline in to spice things up and put an obstacle in Mick & Beth’s way for dramatic purposes. Coraline wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon and there was a lot to explore there. I also would have to explore whether Mick’s true nature as a vampire, as an immortal creature that lives on human blood would ever come to the surface and if Beth would mind being in more danger than if she was not with Mick.
Do you have a favorite quote from Moonlight?
Alex O'Loughlin : I do, Lola says “Remember darling, half the world is night.” (Episode: B.C.) I love it! I write it on some photos when people ask for autographs. (laughs) I love it!
Can you tell us your favorite episode of filming, The Shield on FX?
Alex O'Loughlin : The last one because I didn’t want to leave that whole experience. The Shield is so well written and all of the writers are so smart! To be able to kick doors open, work with guns, arrest people, have car chases… it is all so much fun. The dialogue was just as much fun because the writers are incredible. I really can’t pinpoint my favorite episode we shot because the entire experience was amazing. Every episode I did just got better and better.
Tell me about filming the movies, The Invisible and August Rush.
Alex O'Loughlin : The Invisible was shot in Vancouver and I was a lead but I was not the main lead. So I had a bunch of time off in Vancouver at such a beautiful time of the year when winter was approaching. My character worked out a lot since he had a lot of time on his hands so I ran 10-12 miles a day for 5 days a week, and shaved my head for the role. It was very physical but that was fun. There is one part in the film where Margarita Levieva’s character, Annie has me at gunpoint on the edge. When she kicks me off the small edge, she actually did that! I had a wire on me. The take that they used was actually when I almost lost my balance, so that was fun.
August Rush was a wonderful experience for me. I read the script all the way through while I was shooting The Invisible and I loved it and I read it again. I knew I had to be part of that film. I put down 2 tests at a studio in Vancouver. I played guitar and sang a couple of songs and did a few dialogue scenes. That was all actually for the lead role that Jonathan Rhys Meyers ended up playing. I spoke to the director, Kirsten Sheridan and she said that they needed a known name for the role but she would love to give me the role of Marshall. She re-wrote the character, she pumped that role up because it was a much smaller role in the beginning. We all lived together in NY and I had never lived in NY before so it was one of the greatest times of my life.
What is the most important thing that you have learned about yourself coming from Australia and making your way into Hollywood?
Alex O'Loughlin : I have learned to be able to back yourself up and give yourself what you need. It is such a cut throat industry where you get knocked down so much and get rejected so much. If you do not back yourself up, no one else is going to so you really need to learn to get up, shake the sand off your chest and keep going. Do not take yourself so seriously. All of this stuff is really wonderful if it all crumbles tomorrow, it is okay. I can go home and do something else. Not that I want to do that but it is about keeping the right perspective.

Message of thanks and information from Alex O'Loughlin

October already!
Hello everyone.
I would like to start by talking a bit about The American Red Cross. As you all know I was approached whilst on the show Moonlight to be a spokesperson and representative for this organization. Of course I accepted immediately. I felt honored to be a part of it and hoped I could somehow make a difference in the lives of others. Now with my Red Cross involvement drawing to a close I can only hope I did enough, but that being said I would like to bring up something I have mentioned before.
ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE INVOLVED!!
It was only possible for me to participate because so many wonderful, committed and passionate people came before me and put everything in it's right place for me to be able to slip into the role I eventually did. There are so many of you (and you know who you are!) who were instrumental in this venture and some of you I had the opportunity to thank personally, but to the others I never met or spoke with, thank you so very much. From the bottom of my heart I appreciate the goodwill and charity with which you all worked, and if everyone in the world practiced the same selflessness as you, well..... ;) I think we would all be doing just fine by now! Thank you.
I have only just caught up on all of my birthday mail and there were many of you who sent the most wonderful gifts and cards/letters/messages. It made my birthday something extra ordinary and I felt very loved so thank you very much!!
Wow, lots of "thank you"s today.
As for me, I am great. I am very busy, and have been since we last chatted, on the new project I am developing but it is all still hush hush, sorry guys! Anyway, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up in case we don't make it to the screen. So fingers crossed!
I will keep you all posted as soon as I have some exciting news!!
All my love
Alex x x

Thinking about the first anniversary of Moonlight's television premiere has brought to mind many of my favorite moments from the show. In this video, we see Mick & Beth's 1st & 2nd kisses. Definitely one of my all time top scenes! When Alex O'Loughlin flashes that incredible smile at the end ~ Oooooooooooo my! Actually, he is mesmerizing through out the entire scene. MOONLIGHT AUDIO INTERVIEW: ALEX O'LOUGHLIN AT NEW YORK COMIC CON
by Edward Gross ~ Editor of the Damned
Last spring both Alex O'Loughlin and Jason Dohring appeared at New York Comic Con to promote Moonlight, which was yet to return for its final four episodes. At that time, V&S editor Edward Gross caught up with both actors (the interview with Jason has previously been posted here), and what follows is his conversation with Alex O'Loughlin. Note that Jason was sitting next to him at the time doing a separate interview -- and pay attention early on to Alex's discussion about his pizza, which is amusing. The conversation covers a number of topics, most notably the sequence in which Josef turns Mick back into a vampire.

Possible US release for Moonlight's Season One DVD

DVD News and Reviews
For Moonlight Fans, a "Bite" of Good News
by Matt Mitovich & David Lambert
People want their Mick at night... and in the daytime... and, heck, whenever else they please. And yet thus far, the avid fans of CBS' short-lived Moonlight have been frustrated by the lack of a release date for a DVD set. Further exacerbating the sorry sitch is the fact that a November Region 2 (aka European) release was announced while Statesiders were left in limbo.
But the long wait may be about to end for us Yanks. Earlier this week in an online chat with DVD enthusiasts, reps for Warner Home Video advised Moonlight fans to "stay tuned for good news you can really sink your teeth into in the next month."
The good news: It sounds like a firm U.S. DVD release soon will be announced. The bad news: Dollars to donuts, the discs you are so blood-thirsty for won't be on shelves in time for the holidays, but rather just before or after New Year's.

Kandye's puppy tale

Inching first one way and then the other, but never reaching safety. A confused puppy faltered while cars honked, skidded and sped around him. My sweet Tommmmmy swooped to his rescue! He threw on the emergency brake & jumped out into the street. Other thoughtful drivers stopped to block the traffic in each direction so that he could reach the frightened puppy without being hit himself. There were many smiles of relief. One lady rolled down her window just to yell thanks!
No momma dog or other pups to be found.
Once they were finally safe in the warm, dry truck, Tommmmy called me. When I answered, the first thing he said was ~ "We have a new addition to our family!"
I want to introduce you all to Jasper :) We do not know what kinda dog he is, aside from adorable. Any ideas? Click on the photos above for a closer look.

Moonlight Fan Video ~ The Very Thought of You by Billie Holiday
Silvervintage has created a new Moonlight fan video using music by one of my favorite singers.... favorite voices.... Billie Holiday. The clip uses great scenes from the series. I will let Silvervintage describe the idea behind making this particular video ~
Moonlight (Classic Film Style): The Very Thought of You
Moonlight, the old-fashioned way.
We thought we'd try to capture some of the old film style of Moonlight that they liked to show from time to time. We used the main cast, but mostly focused on Mick and Beth.
Song: The Very Thought of You by Billie Holiday
Cast:
Mick St. John: Alex O'Loughlin
Beth Turner: Sophia Myles
Josef Kostan: Jason Dohring
Coraline: Shannyn Sossamon
Sarah Whitley:??? We couldn't find the name of the actress.
Well anyway, we hope you enjoy the video to one of our favorite songs. Besides, who doesn't want to see Mick as the chivalrous vampire?

Hey Nielsen! ranking system has changed
Several of the great fans who keep Moonlight & its cast at the top of Hey Nielsen's rankings have emailed new information to me. Apparently, the way the website handles its ratings has changed. The show and stars need opinions now more than ever! It is also important to leave comments and react to other people's opinions.
Right now, Moonlight is still #1.... that is due to the continued dedication of the fans. However, Alex O'Loughlin has fallen from #2 to #3, and the rest of the cast completely out of the Top Ten. Just think ~ you get to tell everyone what you think about our show, Sophia Myles, Alex O'Loughlin, Shannyn Sossamon, Jason Dohring, Brian J White, David Blue and Eric Winter while helping to maintain its visibility :)
http://www.heynielsen.com/view/moonlight/
Update : I just found out that my Alex O'Loughlin fan blog has its own listing on Hey Nielsen! http://www.heynielsen.com/view/alex-oloughlin-fanblog/ WOW! Not sure how this happened. They did not contact me, so I don't know if the website staff simply picked my page or if the fans nominated it. Either way.... it is a great honor. Thank you for all your wonderful support :) It means a great deal to me!

No date for debut of Alex O'Loughlin's new show

I think I will use one of my fave photos of Alex to go with this post :)
Today's News: Our Take
Got any news on what the new CBS show starring Moonlight cutie Alex O'Loughlin will be about, and when it will start? — Susan
Matt : Would that I did, if only because it would make me the most popular news blogger on the Web. Alas, insiders tell me it may be a while before Alex O's new gig is a go, seeing as new series development is an "inexact science." It's simply hard to predict what project he'll get attached to, or when it will come to be.

LA Times Entertainment ~ Vampires : Sexy or not sexy?

Vampires: Sexy or not sexy?
By Jevon Phillips, Stephanie Lysaght, Denise Martin and Patrick Kevin Day, Times Staff Writers
The debate over vampires as heartthrob vs. heart-devourer is old but still valid. For every studly Dracula, rising out of his coffin like Hugh Hefner (back in the 1960s), there's another bloodsucker with giant fangs and creepy eyes and gore-encrusted claws. Just last year we had the horrific "30 Days of Night" and this year we have smoldering Bill from HBO's "True Blood" and, of course, the doe-eyed Edward of "Twilight."
But are they really hot, or horrific? And where do they stack up against the many other bloodsuckers who have slunk across the screen? Our crack team of experts ponders the sex-appeal (or lack thereof) of creatures of the night.
SEXY
We’d be a little ticked too. Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) was turned into a vampire on his wedding night. By the bride. Not cool. But 55 years later, he’s still smoking hot and fighting crime. It’s a shame CBS didn’t have the heart to keep him, and his show “Moonlight,” around.

Vampires & Slayers new audio interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Ed also specifically brings up Nina Tassler's "actor-centric" comment. From Alex's reaction, it seemed to me that he had not heard her remark before this chat ~ and wasn't buyin' it.
I will say again that I'm excited & thankful for Alex getting a new contract allowing him to co-develop/produce & star in his next show, as well as pitch movie ideas. He deserves it!
Note : You must be a member of the site in order to listen to Alex O'Loughlin's interview. If you don't mind, please let them know that I sent ya by putting my name ~ Kandyegirl (like you didn't know ~ ha!) ~ as the answer to "How did you find out about Vampires & Slayers?" Thanks :)
MOONLIGHT AUDIO INTERVIEW: ALEX O'LOUGHLIN SAYS GOODBYE
by Edward Gross ~ Vampires & Slayers
For Moonlight's countless fans -- and the people who labored on the show in front of the camera and behind -- it seemed like a no-brainer that vampire detective Mick St. John and the love of his life, Beth Turner, would be returning for a second season. After all, the series won its timeslot almost every week, had highly-coveted demographics, won the People's Choice Awards and was the recipient of a strong cult following. Yet despite all of this going for it, the show was cancelled and its talented cast and crew were forced to go their separate ways. But now, in an excerpt from an exclusive interview, V&S Editor Edward Gross talks to series star Alex O'Loughlin about that cancellation, and his feelings looking back at the series. Moonlight fans take note: there will be much more coverage of the series to come.

New audio interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Great question about his music & if he has any plans to record. As usual, Alex downplays his musical abilities. I hope we get to sample his songs one day.
He also downplays his writing skills. No ego trip! Unlike many stars, Alex is humble & down to earth.
I'm thrilled that Alex will be a producer on his next show. That will give him more control of the project.
He wouldn't give out details about what would have happened to Mick & Beth if Moonlight had been renewed "just in case anything ever happened with that show." I can't tell you how happy I was to hear him say that :)
Another sincere and heartwarming thank you to Moonlight fans!
Love Alex saying he thinks Moonlight would make a good movie. :) That will make some who worried that he wouldn't want to go back to the role of Mick very relieved. I giggled when Alex said to Shelby, "Maybe you should write to Joel Silver and suggest that." We have been, Alex! Moonlight fans regularly tell Joel & Warner Bros that we want a Moonlight film, and ask them not to give up on our show.
I thought this photo of Alex/Mick talking on the phone (in Moonlight's Sonata episode #1x16) would be appropriate for this post. Yes, I'm goofy like that ~ hehehe! Click on the image above for a larger version of the picture.

Big "Thank You" message from Alex O'Loughlin!

Ooooooooo.... Many of you have questioned my statement that Alex is 32 years old. He addresses his age in the message too :)
August 25th
Dear Family, Friends and Fans.
Hi there all!
I would like to preface by thanking everybody who has been involved with the various American Red Cross events recently, and to those of you who have helped make the actual blood drives happen, congratulations and THANK YOU!!!
The American Red Cross is such a terrific and important organization that saves many lives every year and I am very proud to be associated in any way I can.
As you know yesterday was my birthday and thanks to everybody around me I had a really great day. In fact it was amazing. Another year older, but not necessarily wiser!
To answer some of your questions and just so the record is straight I am now 32, having been born in 1976 contrary to what other sources may tell us, which makes me year of the Dragon in Chinese astrology.
Never before have i received anything like the volume of kindness that i received this year. I have been inundated with messages, cards and gifts from so many of you and I am trying to get back to you one by one but it will take me a while so I really appreciate everyone's patience.
It's funny. Instead of Mom, Dad, Bro, Sis, Nan & Gramps etc... I now have 10,000 "thank you" letters to write!! Whoa LOL ;)
As you know I have now officially signed back with the CBS family for a new show opportunity. We are currently in development of a number of new ideas and this will keep us busy through till the end of the year.
I know this isn't much information but I'm under contract again and I'm afraid it's all I can give you right now.
Anyway, I just wanted to touch base with you all quickly on my way to work and say thank you for making yesterday great. It really was.
Warmest regards to you all

New photo wallpaper of birthday boy Alex O'Loughlin as Mick St John

In honor of Alex's day, here is a new wallpaper of our Mick St John. It's a super cool behind the scenes photo taken on Moonlight's set. Mick in action ~ doing his kick for the vamped out fight scene in Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13). That boy sure is limber! It is interesting to get a glimpse of what happens during filming. Seeing Jason Dohring, his Josef stunt double, the cameraperson & crew standing around in the background to watch.

Video ~ Nina Tassler interviewed about Alex O'Loughlin & Moonlight fans
In this video, TV Week's Josef Adalian interviews Nina Tassler (President of CBS Entertainment) at the Television Critics Association Tour. The chat took place before the official announcement of Alex O'Loughlin's talent holding deal.
When asked about keeping Alex, she says "Nothing concrete. We've talked to him in the past. I have a great relationship with him. But, its someone we hold in very high regard. So, its someone I'd like to work with... absolutely."
Nina, again, states that she loves Vampire shows.
"Message to Moonlight fans ~ .... I'm incredibly grateful and appreciative... They're loyal and passionate... We can not dismiss how passionate and enthusiastic fans are about their favorite tv characters and about their tv shows. So, I'm totally fine with their passion and enthusiasm."
Nina Tassler also talks about the Fall strategy for CBS, CSI and William Petersen (Grissom) leaving the series, Swingtown, etc. The Alex & Moonlight portion begins around the 3:16 mark of the video.
TVWeek ~ CBS Sinks Teeth Into Moonlight Star

CBS Sinks Teeth Into 'Moonlight' Star
By Josef Adalian
CBS is taking another bite at the idea of a series featuring "Moonlight" star Alex O'Loughlin.
The network has signed Mr. O'Loughlin to a talent holding deal, according to a person familiar with the situation. CBS will try to develop a series built around the actor or, if that's not possible, cast him in another project in the works at the network.
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler had signaled her intent to sign Mr. O'Loughlin to a deal back in July during the TV Critics Association press tour. One person familiar with negotiations said the broad outlines of an agreement had been in place for weeks.
"Moonlight" attracted modest ratings but a fiercely loyal fan base, particularly online. It's unclear whether news of Mr. O'Loughlin's potential return to prime time will mollify the hurt feelings of those fans, many of whom have been unsparing in their criticism of CBS over the decision to cancel the show.
A CBS Corp. spokesman declined comment when asked about the talent deal last week.
As part of the deal, whatever project CBS develops will be produced via CBS Paramount and ABC Studios in conjunction with producer Mark Gordon.

What is a talent holding deal?

Alex O’Loughlin Stays with CBS
by Cynthia Boris
A number of sources are reporting that Moonlight’s Alex O’Loughlin has signed a talent holding deal with CBS. What this means is that the network will attempt to develop a new series for Alex and /or cast him in another project. Obviously, the first of the two would be the better option, but fans are saying why not just bring back Moonlight? Since Alex was the show, why bother creating something new when something old will do?
As much as I love Moonlight, I’m happy to see Alex sticking around for another shot at anything on TV. Too often actors get one go of it and that’s the end of that. I could totally handle him as a PI in a 40’s Noir drama, or maybe as a lifeguard in a Baywatch remake (I’m going for the ’shirt off’ aspect.) What ever it is, I hope it’s action packed and I hope its soon.

News of Alex O'Loughlin's contract is spreading

Alex O'Loughlin inks deal with CBS...now if they could just create a show like Moonlight...
by Jane Boursaw
I can't decide if this is good news or bad news. Moonlight star Alex O'Loughlin is staying at CBS.
Unless you've been in another galaxy for the past year, you know that the Aussie actor cultivated an enormous fan base with his role as vampire P.I. Mick St. John on CBS' Moonlight. The uproar caused by the cancellation of the show in May can still be heard, well, in another galaxy.
At the Television Critics Association press tour in July, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler said the popularity of Moonlight was due in large part to O'Loughlin's fan base. So I can appreciate the fact that CBS wants to keep him around. But it's what they'll do with him that has me worried.
Under the one-year talent holding deal, O'Loughlin will star in a new series project for CBS to be developed by producer Mark Gordon, whose ABC Studio-based company is behind such series as ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Lifetime's Army Wives, and CBS' Criminal Minds.
It'll make my blood curl if they saddle him with some wimpy Grey's Anatomy-type show. I'm not dissing the show - I'm a huge fan, even during its crummiest seasons. But I'd hate to see O'Loughlin land in some milquetoast ensemble show when he clearly has the chops to headline a unique, fresh series.
You know, like Moonlight. Now if they could just create a show like that for him to star in...

Hollywood Reporter ~ Alex O'Loughlin staying at CBS

Alex O'Loughlin staying at CBS
Has signed a one-year talent deal with the network
by James Hibberd
"Moonlight" star Alex O'Loughlin is staying at CBS.
The Australian actor has signed a talent holding deal with the network, sister studio CBS Paramount TV and ABC Studios.
Under the one-year pact, O'Loughlin will star in a new series project for CBS that will be developed by top TV producer Mark Gordon, whose ABC Studio-based company is behind such series as ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," Lifetime's "Army Wives" and CBS' "Criminal Minds."
O'Loughlin rose to prominence this past season as vampire PI Mick St. John on CBS' "Moonlight." He helped attract a passionate fan base to the ill-fated freshman drama, which was canceled in May. At the Television Critics Assn. press tour in July, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler credited the show's intense fan appeal to the actor. Under the new deal with CBS, he also will be able to pitch theatrical projects to CBS Films.
O'Loughlin, who next appears in the feature "Whiteout," is repped by ICM and June Cann Management.

Holly Valance champions the mission of MDRI
Mental Disability Rights International is an organization which helps people who are challenged. Sadly, they are often being abused and/or neglected. According to their mission statement ~ "Mental Disability Rights International (MDRI) is dedicated to promoting the human rights and full participation in society of people with mental disabilities worldwide."
http://www.mdri.org/
Alex O'Loughlin's girlfriend, actress/singer Holly Valance, has taken up this cause. This video shows the PSA she did in support of MDRI. Below is a message from Holly explaining why she became involved with this worthy cause.
A letter from Holly Valance, international model, singer and actress:
Dear Friends,
I first learned of MDRI after its Serbia story shown on NBC News. To say I was affected by the images would be an understatement. I guess you don't know what you don't know, but now that I do, I can never be the same.
Huddled over my laptop sobbing, I wrote to the organization offering to be of any service I could. As I learned through further educating myself with MDRI's reports and discussions with staff, I realized this is not only a mental disability rights issue – but a human rights issue.
The work MDRI does is so important - any kind of support is crucial and pivotal to changing the conditions, laws and mindsets of the countries affected. I lie awake at night sick to my stomach about what goes on in these institutions and MDRI is the one on the frontline making these changes possible. They are truly angels – and they need our help. If there was ever a worthy cause that can make the world a better, safer, more compassionate place, this is it. I've always been very drawn to helping those without voices, the ones who don't get a say; the ones who are not seen or heard but kept away in poverty and shame; treated worse than animals.
They are God’s children too and they need to be protected. They deserve every right and opportunity you or I have and it's simply not good enough to sit back and hope someone else will fix it, or it will go away. It won't. It takes hard work, perseverance and funding to change an enormous issue like those tackled by MDRI daily.
If you know now, please help.
Make a truly meaningful decision to be part of something life changing for millions of people. While you curl up in your warm and safe bed tonight, imagine the torture being inflicted daily on these unfortunate souls because not enough of us know.
It's disgusting – and you are somewhat responsible if you learn about it and do nothing.
This has got to stop. It can not go on.
I am so truly honored, humbled and proud to be associated with Mental Disability Rights International.
Yours faithfully,
Holly Valance
