SciFi Wire interviews Alex O'Loughlin about upcoming episodes & future of Moonlight

SciFi Wire interviewed Alex O'Loughlin at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors convention. He spoke to them about what we will see in the remaining episodes of Moonlight this season. Alex doesn't think Moonlight will be cancelled. He says "If it doesn't get a second season, blood will flow." That is soooo true!

SPOILER ALERT! Alex mentions the story lines for upcoming Moonlight episodes.... especially What's Left Behind (episode #1x15), which we have already been discussing due to the stir his comments caused in a previous post.

Moonlight Raises The Stakes
by Cindy White

Alex O'Loughlin, who plays vampire Mick St. John on the CBS series Moonlight, told SCI FI Wire that the episodes leading up to the first-season finale will raise the stakes for all of the characters.

"This is a really cool episode coming up this week," O'Loughlin said in an interview before appearing in a panel at Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles on April 27. "Mick, for the first time, has to start seriously thinking about his level of exposure in the public eye, because when a vampire gets too overexposed, they have to change cities, change names, do all that stuff. And so we start dealing with that sort of stuff with Mick, and Josef [Jason Dohring] gets in on it, which is really cool. And the case is awesome."

Production on Moonlight's first season was halted during the writers' strike, leading to a break in the broadcast schedule and a reduction in the number of episodes from 22 to 16. O'Loughlin also offered up a few tidbits about what fans can expect in the last two episodes.

"Number 15 is probably my favorite of this installation of four," he said. "It's a story where basically Mick thinks he has found his son, who is, in fact, twice his age. I mean, Mick's really 90. But this guy's like mid-50s, and Mick's looking at him going, 'Oh, my God, this guy's my son.' And so there's a lot of really great flashbacks. It's really personal. We go back to the war, when Mick was in the war, and there's a big battle scene. It's awesome. So we did all that. It was a massive episode."

As for the final episode of the season, he said: "The one I just finished shooting last night is really cool in the sense that what happens is the vampire community is in danger of being exposed for what we are. And what happens is Mick has to get all the vampires together. So Guillermo, the cleaners, Josef, Logan. And it's the first time we'll see all the vampires come together to do something."

Fans will find out whether the show has been renewed for a second season in May, when CBS will make its upfront presentation to advertisers in New York. O'Loughlin was optimistic about the show's chances of coming back, but warned that there may be a backlash from fans if the show does not make it on the network schedule.

"If it doesn't get a second season, blood will flow," O'Loughlin said. "I've got to say, though, I can't see it. We've been working our ass off, but, I mean, above and beyond that, this show has performed. We've still got the numbers there, and we're winning the timeslot, winning the demographic. And it's like, well, what else do you want? There it is. Give us a shot."

Moonlight airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin appears on TV Watercooler

Video #1 ~

Video #2 ~

These videos are of Alex O'Loughlin's appearance on the TV Watercooler show on TV Guide Channel tonight. Part 1 shows Alex's interview & him answering fan questions. In part 2, he takes the Watercooler quiz. He is such a good sport!

SPOILER ALERT ~ scenes from Moonlight's Fated to Pretend episode (#1x13) are included. Just warning those who still haven't watched it.

Programming note..... I saw a promo on the TV Guide Channel saying the cast of Moonlight will appear on their Hollywood 411 show Thursday night (May 1st, 2008). Check your local listings. 411 normally airs at 8:00 PM Central 9:00 PM Eastern. I like all the opportunities we have had to see our fab cast lately!

Wallpaper ~ Alex O'Loughlin in new TV Guide Magazine Sexiest Stars issue

New, free Alex O'Loughlin Wallpaper

You gotta love the mail when something like this is inside! The latest issue of TV Guide Magazine (May 5th to 11th) has a two page spread of Alex O'Loughlin... pages 56 & 57. As I posted earlier, Alex is the winner in their Sexiest Sci-Fi guy poll. Now we know what the phoot shoot we saw previously was for :)

*swoon* I think this should have been the magazine's cover shot!

I made this picture big enough for you to use as your wallpaper. I had the sneaking feeling that you would want to decorate your computer desktop or MySpace layout with a new Alex background.

Accompanying the dreamy photo of Alex in TV Guide is this quote from Sophia Myles regarding his hotness. No matter how much time spent with him, I can't imagine becoming "immune." I couldn't possibly get used to that delicious man!

"I'm immune to Alex's hotness. I see more of him than any boyfriend I've ever had. I'm very privileged because of that, but since I see him so much, I've overdosed on his hotness. It's just the norm. But other people get weak in the knees around him. They start blushing. They drool. He has that Johnny Depp thing, a special sparkle that's just magic. How do you define it? The young girls love him, the older ladies love him, and the gay guys love him. He's really good at expressive movement and loves musical theater. He's also up there with the greatest comedian I've ever known. I go home with stomach pains from laughing so hard. It's constant. He's kinda crude, English and Australians have a great connection when it comes to humor, and we can be outrageous. You couldn't put some of it in print. Americans don't know what to do with us, but I like that"

Alex, Holly, Jason, Brian and Sophia at Speed Racer movie premiere

Moonlight's executive producer, Joel Silver, also produced the film Speed Racer. Alex O'Loughlin, Holly Valance, Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles & Brian J White all went to the movie premiere on Saturday night (April 26th, 2008) to support him.... and pose for these great red carpet photos. Sophia is all dressed up. Lady in red :)

Video ~ CBS releases Mick's transformation scene

SPOILER ALERT ~ Moonlight - Mick Transforms Back Into A Vampire

CBS has released a video showing Josef turn Mick. Again, I will say that Jason Dohring & Alex O'Loughlin are simply amazing in this scene. This is by far my favorite moment to date from our show!

Alex O'Loughlin wins TV Guide's Sexiest SciFi Guy title

Alex O'Loughlin won Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy in TV Guide's Sexiest Stars 2008 contest! It was a hard won victory over Smallville's Tom Welling. You did a fantastic job of voting for our man :)

One grumble..... Alex did not win the Sexiest Man-Mane poll. BOO! Every time I voted, he was smoking Patrick Dempsey by a hefty percentage. In the end, Patrick won.

Video ~ Moonlight Panel at Fangoria Convention

This is a great video of Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles & Jason Dohring from the Moonlight Panel at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors Convention. Alex says the last three episodes were done as stand alones because we still don't have a second season pick up. They don't wanna leave viewers hanging in case Moonlight isn't renewed.

I like their ease together & how they tease each other... Alex ribbing Sophia for saying she finds him sexy with the Mick vamp teeth & contact lenses. We learn that it was Alex's idea to have the Vampire bloodlines as part of our storyline. Also, Beth is gonna get a new job.... which we saw in a previous spoiler.

NY Daily News' interview with Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring

The New York Daily News interviewed Alex O'Loughlin & Jason Dohring for their article about the wonderful Moonlight Blood Drive. Lots of praise for Moonlight fans :)

'Moonlight' fans are bloody determined
By Stu Horvath

Fans of the CBS vampire drama "Moonlight" are out for blood.

To ensure their favorite show gets picked up for a second season, they have coordinated with the American Red Cross for a series of charity blood drives, and the show's star, Alex O'Loughlin, has stepped up to become a national spokesman for the charity.

"The blood drive is so fantastic. It's just great to be a service," says O'Loughlin. "It's the American Red Cross. It's awesome. I'm their vampy spokesperson!"

Fans have organized dozens of blood drives across the country, including several in New York City following O'Loughlin's appearances at the New York Comic Con and CBS' "Early Show." Today, another drive is scheduled outside the "Late Show With David Letterman." Pledges can also be made on http://www.youchoose.net/ or local Red Cross blood centers.

Fan-run actions to save beloved television shows have become increasingly popular in recent years, more so after the peanut campaign to save CBS' "Jericho" succeeded in landing the show a second season after it was canceled. "Moonlight" co-star Jason Dohring is no stranger to fan campaigns: Devotees of his previous show, "Veronica Mars," flooded the offices of The CW network with Mars bars in an attempt to save the show.

"The 'Veronica Mars' fan base was a little more youth-oriented because we were in high school," says Dohring. "Now it's the mothers who come up and ask me to drink their blood."

O'Loughlin's heart pumps faster when he talks about his show's fans.

"Fans of the show are so devoted, so giving of their time and energy," says O'Loughlin. "It's a pleasure to be a part of something that people care about as much as I do."

"I really care about this show. Actually, I bleed for the show regularly. I'm forever getting thrown through windows and actually bleeding."

"Moonlight" follows O'Loughlin's adventures as Mick St. John, a private investigator who was reluctantly turned into a vampire and has since devoted himself to protecting the humans of Los Angeles instead of preying on them.

O'Loughlin is hoping his turn as an immortal lasts a long, long time.

"I've been thinking about getting my teeth ground down and elongated," he says. "I'm thinking about making that kind of commitment to being a vampire."

Moonlight cast interviewed at the Paley Center for Media event

Kristin Dos Santos, from E!, interviewed Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles, Brian J White & Jason Dohring at the Paley Center Moonlight Panel. We have two videos to enjoy from the event.

Part 1 ~

Sophia talks about her new short hair, wearing a wig and describes the new Moonlight episodes as "sexy." Alex gives his opinion of who is Mick's true love... Beth or Coraline. Brian J White is amazed by the fans giving blood to support the show. He also calls Alex "Mr hunk-stud." hahaha

Part 2 ~

Jason says he & Alex had a wonderful time at the NY Comic Con. He also tells Kristin that episode #1x13 (Fated to Pretend) broke his heart. Ours too, Jason! She mentions that he is used to being on a tv show with a die hard fan base (Veronica Mars). Jason says "it's like you have a lot of friends." Awwwwww...... He goes on to praise Alex for his hard work ~ 90 hours a week *gulp* Jason is such a good guy!

Video ~ Josef vamping out on Mick in Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

SPOILER ALERT! This video is of a scene between Mick St John & Josef Kostan in last night's Moonlight episode ~ Fated to Pretend (#1x13). Don't watch it if you haven't seen the show yet & wanna be surprised.

Mick is determined to take on the bad Vampire doctor to save our kidnapped Beth, even though he is human. Josef vamps out & attacks Mick to show him that he can not hope to win the mortal vs Vampire fight.

Video ~ MickBeth's rooftop date and kiss in Fated to Pretend (episode #1x13)

This video is of Fated to Pretend's (episode #1x13) incredible final scene. Mick St John and Beth Turner's amazingly romantic rooftop picnic date and kiss! I still can't believe she left.... he would have had to kick me out *grin* The song used is Lucky by Bif Naked.

Entertainment Weekly's Pop Watch Duel ~ Alex O'Loughlin vs Jason Dohring

In one of my previous posts Mandi mentioned an upcoming Moonlight related PopWatch Duel, when she wrote about meeting Alex O'Loughlin at the NY Comic Con. The duel is here.... proving yet again how witty our boys are! Who do you think gave the best answers? My head is still spinning from wicked thoughts after Alex said "sex toys!" ;>

PopWatch Duel: 'Moonlight''s Alex O'Loughlin vs. Jason Dohring
by Mandi Bierly

You remember how the PopWatch Duel works: We ask two costars for their picks on a certain topic. You decide whose list is better by casting a vote in the comments section. They try to tell themselves that they don't care who wins.

In honor of Moonlight's return tonight with the first of four new episodes (Fridays, 9 p.m. ET/PT, CBS) we sat down with Alex O'Loughlin (left) and Jason Dohring (right) at New York Comic Con and asked them to each name five things that should live forever in pop culture. (They play vampires on the show. Get it?) Dohring's worried that O'Loughlin sealed the win with his first choice, but we think we've got ourselves a fair fight. Their responses...

Alex O'Loughlin

1. Velcro. I think we all know why Velcro is as great as it is. It's just terrific. You can stick an entire dining set to the roof. Very versatile: Shoes, nappies... sex toys. Whatever you need.

2. Monkey (aka Monkey Magic). The greatest thing that ever happened to television. It's a Japanese show [dubbed in English] about these characters Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy, and Tripitaka, and they fight wars against demons. Monkey was born in an egg on a mountain top, and he rides a cloud, and he has a staff that he keeps behind his ear and grows to full size. It's the best show ever. I thought I was Monkey when I was a kid. He wears this gold crown, and I'd wear one and stake vampires.

3. The Adidas shell toe triple stripe classic. Great sneaker. Get a pair. In any color you want. I prefer the black stripe on the white shoe. I'm shootin' for an endorsement deal. Go Adidas. Did I say "Go Adidas?" Adidas. Adidas. Adidas. Go Adidas.

4. The iPhone. It's revolutionized the way we live. It's a great Internet tool in your pocket. It's a global tool. I take my iPhone everywhere.

5. The mullet. I grew up in a mullet kind of world, a mullet-y school with mullet-y friends. I had several mullets over the years, so I have a longstanding personal relationship with the mullet and I'm ready to mullet anytime. I can mullet right now. RIGHT NOW.

Jason Dohring

1. Designer shoes. Look at these f'in shoes. [Points to his sneakers.] Gucci shoes. I got into designer clothes, dude, and once you get into it, you can't go back. I started kinda working out, and you wear a designer shirt, and you're like Dude, this feels like it wants to fit to your body. So, like, I don't have to work out as much, but it still looks good. It's great.... Alex is gonna take me shopping me later today, and I'm really excited about that. Apparently, he has a pair of Paul Smith flower shoes that he just bought, and he can actually pull them off 'cause he's Australian, you know, and they kinda do things that we don't do here in the States. I'm trying to get some fashion tips.

2. Love and morals. I was just thinking that I'd put a couple things on here that I thought were real. If those go out, our society's gone, dude. You wouldn't have families. It sucks to see so many people break up. It doesn't set a great example for people.... Love, even as friends — how enjoyable is a great conversation with a friend? There's nothing better, dude. You can buy all the whatever you want, but sitting around with a cigar and chattin' with my boy, here, is a really good time. We film till really late, so we'll sit around on the WB lot at 2 in the morning, when nobody's there, and just look up at the WB sign and go, "What the f--- are we doing here?" It's beautiful.

3. Scratch 'n Sniff stickers. That was from when I was a kid. The grape ones, man, I was really into those. I think those are dead, so let's bring 'em back, boys. And you had all the blond jokes about them, as well. "How do you a kill a blond? You put a Scratch 'n Sniff sticker at the bottom of a pool." [Silence] That was kinda lame.

4. The banjo. No, I don't play, but if you've ever seen a guy play the banjo or a fiddle really well, man, it's cool stuff. You wouldn't have Deliverance without the banjo. [Hums]

5. Veronica Mars. Unfortunately, it didn't last forever, but it seems when you walk around a place like Comic Con that it does. Art's the kinda thing that stays with people. You emotionally invest people and you emotionally invest yourself in something, and then it lasts. That's pretty amazing, actually, isn't it?

Okay, who wins the Duel? Alex O'Loughlin or Jason Dohring? Vote now!

Video interview ~ Alex O'Loughlin answers questions from Moonlight fans!

TV Guide's Matt Mitovich asked Alex O'Loughlin questions sent in by Moonlight fans! Very interesting that Alex says he and our show writers have different ideas about the future of MickBeth. He has such a vision for Mick, and has brought him to life for us. I don't want him to be unhappy with what happens and he has to portray. With all his hard work, I can't imagine that our writers would completely discount his input.

CBS affiliate interview with Alex O'Loughlin

Another affiliate interview for Alex O'Loughlin. This time with WDEF. Alex is so good at answering the same old questions from people who have never watched Moonlight. He is always gracious.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin gracefully handles wacky morning show interview

Early morning chat chit with Alex O'Loughlin. Moonlight is getting quite the promotional push. *cheer* Poor Alex obviously spent a lotta time nailed to a chair doing remotes with various CBS affiliates. He handles the satellite delay & the wacky morning show anchors from WJZ13 (Baltimore, MD) with grace.

Even these guys realize how hot Alex is ~ "In America, we grow actors who look like Peter Falk and Danny De Vito..... they grow actors that look like Hugh Jackman and our guest this morning, Alex O'Loughlin." They go on to tell Alex about one of their wives who has a crush on him.

This video includes spoiler footage we have seen in Moonlight promos.

His character debuted in The New Guy (episode #6x69), which will be rebroadcast tomorrow morning.

Entertainment Weekly covers meeting Alex at the NY Comic Con

The lovely Mandi Bierly, at Entertainment Weekly's Pop Watch Blog, wrote a fab article about going to the NY Comic Con and meeting Alex O'Loughlin. Love her line about "Apparently, When you have an opportunity to be in the same room with Alex O'Loughlin, you take it is the second rule of journalism." Everyone is intoxicated just by being near the man. Fortunately, he uses his powers for good not evil.... hahaha!

Mandi's story is a nice little glimpse at how affable our Alex is to all who meet him. He "willingly" held the handmade sign she created for the photo above, and sent a greeting with it. We hear from Jason Dohring about how emotional a certain scene in Fated to Pretend (#1x13) made him. There is humor about he & Alex seeing the final cut of it tho. It is the same scene we read the boys joked about in a previous convention report. Reading this highlights again how lucky we are to have these amazing people creating our show!

Mandi also included a link to my little blog in her article. How nice is that? :)

Spoiler Alert!

'Moonlight' gets steamy(ier); I get star Alex O'Loughlin to pose for this hot photo!

Have you ever met a star that someone close to you just loves? And if so, did you find yourself asking that celebrity to do something for him or her?

Here's why I'm asking: In honor of Moonlight returning with the first of four new episodes on April 25 (CBS, 9 p.m. ET/PT), I suggested that I do one of my PopWatch Duels with Alex O'Loughlin, who plays Mick, and Jason Dohring, who plays Josef. (Look for it later this week.) When my colleague Michael Slezak found out that O'Loughlin and Dohring would be in town April 20 for New York Comic Con, he decided that I would be doing interviews for that Duel in person. (Apparently, When you have an opportunity to be in the same room with Alex O'Loughlin, you take it is the second rule of journalism. Right after, When you have a picture of a water-skiing squirrel, you run it. That one I read in Time Out New York once, and I vehemently concur.) So, yesterday, at the end of my chat with O'Loughlin, I asked him to pose for a photo — with a sign that I made for the occasion. (He, by the way, did so willingly. And told me to tell Slezak he said, "Hi.")

After the jump, some serious and STEAMY Moonlight spoilers.

• Ladies (and Slezak) really do love Alex O'Loughlin... O'Loughlin and Dohring participated in a panel to promote the show's return. When the moderator asked them to name their favorite episodes, O'Loughlin said he had "favorite scenes." Cue the suggestions from women in the crowd: "The shower scene! THE SHOWER SCENE!" (You know the one, with Shannyn Sossamon, who plays his ex Coraline.) When it came time for the official audience participation, 25 fans queued at a mike to ask a question — only one of them was male.

• But they do not like Coraline. The panel began with a 12-minute clip reel. O'Loughlin and Dohring noted that the loudest applause was for Beth (Sophia Myles) staking/stabbing Coraline — and that it was "such a shame" that Sossamon couldn't make it that day.

• I am, apparently, actually a gay man. When we last left Mick, he'd become human, albeit temporarily. In the April 25 episode, Beth is in danger — again — and Mick realizes he can't save her without his vampire power. He demands that Josef turn him back. The short clip shown, of Josef drinking from Mick's neck? Kinda hot, y'all. "It wasn't our intention to make the scene hot," O'Loughlin said, when I asked him about it after the panel. (Because you know that I did.) But it is to the show's advantage if we, the viewers, find it hot, right? "Sure, absolutely. What my intention is as an actor — as is Jason's, it's safe to say — is to make the scene true. In any dramatic scene you play on a show, you can't play 'hotness,' you can't play 'humor.' You've just got to go for the truth of the scene. And we did, and I think it kinda worked." According to Dohring, it hellaworked. "Dude, when you see the scene, I swear to god, I was emotional for an hour or two afterward. I'm not f---in' jokin'," he told me. "Usually, it doesn't hit me like that, or it's five or ten minutes. It's very f---in' moving, because we got a 30-piece orchestra for that scene and our director, David Barrett, kept telling these guys, 'Play like you're never gonna play again,' and these guys were, like, going crazy. That clip didn't do it justice. You'll see some f---in' amazing stuff." (Like them ending up on a table? But again, Dohring stresses that it wasn't their intention to make the scene "hot.") "The thing is, the dude's human, which is what he's wanted. It's the thing he's always bitchin' to me about: 'I want to be human.' And then he f---in' can't. It's like, here, I have to take from you the one thing that you want. That's f---ed up." (Or, what I call good television. And, of course, hot.)

• Mick and Beth may finally get it on. "I think that they are going to do that," O'Loughlin said, when an audience member asked if the pair will "seal the deal." Now whether he meant sometime during Season 1's final four episodes, or just eventually, he didn't say. I can tell you that one of the clips from an upcoming episode included a passionate kiss. Beth tells Mick that she's not the thing keeping them apart, and neither is his vampirism. It's him — he's afraid of getting hurt. She starts to walk away, and he grabs her. (You can hear the squeals, right?)

• The future of the show is still up in the air. There's been no pick up, but the rabid fan support (Moonlight Blood Drive!) gives O'Loughlin hope that there will be. He told me he's turned down film roles that would conflict with work on Moonlight's hypothetical second season. Dohring said they're filming the final episode of Season 1 now, and it includes a cliffhanger. "You see vampires from a bunch of different circles, all walks of life, meeting together to deal with a threat that comes on all of us..." What can you do, besides open a vein, if you want a Season 2? Tune in now, Dohring says. "I think the better we do [in the ratings] with these first two episodes, the better the chance we have." And, hey, if you haven't heard, this Friday's episode is gonna be hot.

Video ~ Alex O'Loughlin's interview on The Early Show

Mild spoilers for those who don't want to know anything at all before the new episodes begin airing this Friday!

This video is of Alex O'Loughlin's interview on The Early Show this morning (Monday, April 21st , 2008). It was so good to see him :) Gracious and yummy, as expected! Of course, I wish Alex had been on for much longer. I'm greedy like that. However, we are happy for any amount of time with him, right? Plus, I hope this opens the flood gates of him being booked on the talk shows. You couldn't find a more delightful guest!

A short clip of scenes from Moonlight's next episode, Fated to Pretend (#1x13), was shown during the interview. It includes the footage of Mick's morning routine ~ brushing his teeth, drinking coffee, walking around shirtless ~ that we saw in a spoiler video previously. Our speculation was correct, it is a voiceover sequence. He says the lines we could hear the female crew member reciting in the background. We see Mick and Beth talking to new ADA Talbot, a bit of Josef, etc.

We learn that Mick has been human for 6 days, 8 hours and 42 minutes when this episode takes place. Beth gives Mick at ultimatum.

Alex "She's like, are we dating or what? So.... yea... we start dating. It's cool."

"An immortal who hasn't dated in sorta 60 years deal with dating in the modern world."

The interviewer (Maggie Rodriguez) was clearly charmed by Alex, to put it mildly. Another one falls under his spell *grin* Like many others, she said "Besides the obvious... I mean, look at him... give me one great reason to watch." In one of the early behind the scenes interviews, Sophia Myles said the same thing ~ "I mean, look at him." And it hasn't stopped since then! hahahaha! I wonder what Alex thinks about that.

Nothing tops the end, when she said "Watch, or Alex will come suck all your blood.... [winks at him]..... that might not be so bad." Should one man have this kinda power over women?!!??! No one is immune!

One thing tho, Alex ~ I'm a girl who happens to like the action/adventure too. It's not just for the guys ;>

Again, he looked very tired. That did not detract in any way from him being stunning as usual. I just feel for him cuz now he has to do more interviews, fly back to LA, do the Paley Center event & Moonlight blood drive, film Sonata (episode #1x16) and then appear at the LA Fangoria Convention.

Speaking of exhausted.......... I stayed up all night to make sure I didn't miss seeing Alex this morning. Time for a little nap!

American Red Cross Blood Services has issued this wonderful press release regarding our Alex and the Moonlight Blood Drive. :)

Star of Vampire TV Series Asks For Blood
"Moonlight" star Alex O'Loughlin encourages blood donations to help save lives.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (04/14/2008; 0828) -- Alex O’Loughlin, star of the hit CBS television show “Moonlight,” is asking you for blood to help save lives. O’Loughlin is calling attention to the important need for regular blood donations by encouraging fans, family and friends to donate blood and help change a life.

"I am honored to publicly support the American Red Cross and the amazing work that they do. ‘Moonlight’ fans are incredibly generous to not just support our show, but to support a noble and life-saving cause. Who knew that a vampire's taste for blood could do so much good,” says O’Loughlin.

“The Red Cross thanks Alex for using his growing TV popularity as a good, caring vampire to help bring awareness to the continuous need for blood donations to ensure an adequate blood supply for the thousands of patients in our communities,” says Chris Hrouda, Executive Vice President, Biomedical Services.

“Moonlight,” a romantic thriller with a new twist on the vampire legend, features O’Loughlin as Mick St. John, a captivating, charming and immortal private investigator from Los Angeles who defies the traditional bloodsucking norms of a vampire by using his wit and powerful supernatural abilities to help the living. Forever 30 years of age, Mick is as handsome and charismatic as the day he was "turned," and he eschews others of his kind who view humans solely as a source of nourishment. With only a handful of like-minded confidantes for company, Mick fills his infinite days protecting the living. "Moonlight" is from Silver Pictures Television in association with Warner Bros. Television, and airs Fridays (9:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on CBS. The show returns with original episodes April 25, 2008. An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled at The Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 22 in conjunction with a salute to the series scheduled that evening with the cast and creative team. It is anticipated that O’Loughlin may make an appearance to show his support. A public service announcement may be broadcast in select target markets. Call 1 800 GIVELIFE (800 448-3543,) visit givelife.org or contact your local blood center to learn more and make an appointment to donate blood.

About the American Red Cross: The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The American Red Cross is a charity, not a government agency, and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.

Any healthy person age 17 or older (in some states, age 16 with written parental consent) and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment to donate blood by calling 1.800.GIVE.LIFE (1.800.448.3543) or by visiting givelife.org.

New article about the Moonlight Blood Drive & Alex O'Loughlin on Buddy TV's site

Kris De Leon has published a new article about our Moonlight Blood Drive and Alex O'Loughlin on Buddy TV's website. Spreading the word! Again, it is wonderful to hear how proud Alex is of his Moonlight fans. :)

Moonlight: Alex O'Loughlin Grateful for Blood Campaign
by Kris De Leon

As the star of Moonlight, Alex O'Loughlin couldn't be more pleased with fans that have put in great efforts, not to mention blood, sweat and tears, to promote the CBS freshman series. But among all the campaigns, what recently and significantly caught the Australian actor's attention is the fact that fans have come up with a philanthropic act that supports the series and helps save lives at the same time.

As reported recently, fans have launched a blood drive in association with the American Red Cross to request the network to renew Moonlight for a second season and to celebrate new episodes of the vampire detective series when it returns on Friday, April 25.

“It's just so great. Even more so than them caring about the show is that such initiative is being used to participate in a community service at such a selfless level. I think it's such a great idea, and it's such a wonderful project and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. And then on a show level, it's thrilling to know that people care about the show as much as I do,” O'Loughlin said of the blood drive.

While fans are patiently waiting for new episodes to air, O'Loughlin and the rest of the cast of Moonlight are also anxiously waiting for a second season pick up. Although the show has established a solid following and above average ratings, as of the moment, the network has not made any official announcement regarding the fate of the series.

“CBS is so unpredictable in how and why they make the decisions they make which is why no one, not even the other networks, can second-guess them at this time of the year before the upfronts. Personally, I think it'd be a smart business choice to pick the show up, because we have such a rabid fan base and people will tune in to watch,” O'Loughlin, who plays lead character Mick St. John, said.

“As an actor, I can't ever afford to second-guess anything, because often I'm wrong, and it hurts too bad,” he added.

If you're a fan of Moonlight, you can support the show through the blood campaign and by watching new episodes beginning April 25 on CBS.

Australia ~ Dollywood interviews Alex O'Loughlin

August Rush was released in Australia in February. Lucky for us, Alex has done several interviews to promote the film. It is always wonderful to hear from him. Dollywood had the following quick chat with him. Can you imagine how fun it would be to hang out with Alex and Jonathan Rhys Meyers?!?

Alex O'Loughlin

We caught up with Aussie actor Alex O'Loughlin to hear all about his new film August Rush with Jonathan Rhys Myers and Kerri Russell.

Dolly : So what's August Rush all about?

Alex O'Louglin : It's a film I really wanted to be in — the script was amazing, it's really good stuff. My character is Marshall and he is Louis' (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) brother. The story is that we are from Dublin and go to New York to expand our musical careers and play rock. Johnny's character falls for Kerri's (Russell) and he gets so distracted by this woman we essentially lose him as the older brother and key guitarist. I get really upset with him and a rift happens until we finally come back together and he comes back and he really finds his music and essentially finds himself.

Dolly : Did you have fun making the film?

Alex O'Loughlin : I lived with Johnny and the other guys in the band (in the film) for four months. We had to learn all the music that we perform in the film so we developed relationships. The main thing was that I had a lot of work to do on the accent. I was hanging out with other Irish guys and we played a lot of music together. Living with cast mates was something I'd never done before but it was a lot of fun.

Dolly : I bet you got up to a lot of mischief...

Alex O'Loughlin : We partied, we saw a lot of music, and because Jonathan is who he is we got a lot of free tickets to stuff. We ate a lot of fantastic food, saw lots of great gigs, and before you know it shooting was over. New York is the one place in the world where you really want to forfeit sleep to go out and see the city.

Dolly : What's the biggest misconception about being an actor?

Alex O'Loughlin : "The biggest misconception is that in the first 20 years you're making money. People can't believe it, they're like, "Dude you must make heaps, did this or that," but the reality is while people in regular jobs get a pay cheque every week or month, I get one once a year."

Australia ~ Cosmo's quick interview with Alex O'Loughlin

The movie August Rush was recently released in Australia. Cosmo did a fun, brief interview with Alex O'Loughlin to tie into the film opening. A peek at a romantic date with Alex. The final question they ask him is something I know many of you have been asking too *grin*

Cosmopolitan Celeb Insider
Don't Miss August Rush

We felt the fuzzies with this sweet-as story about a music miracle child, Evan Taylor (Freddie Highmore), who uses his talents to track down his parents who abandoned him when he was born. It's been a while since we got a 'magic-does-exist' fix, and we promise this fairytale-ish flick won't disappoint.

Keep your eyes peeled for Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (the parents), as well as Aussie actor Alex O'Loughlin (pictured with Meyers above). Hint: he's the spunky Sydney boy who's shacked up with Holly Valance in LA, and recently starred as a detective-slash-vampire in Channel Nine's Moonlight). We roped him in for a quick chat:

Cosmo : How's the Aussie-in-LA thing working out for you?

Alex O'Loughlin : I lived on a couch for a year and effed my back, but things are going okay now.

Cosmo : Were you bummed to miss out on the James Bond/Casino Royale role to Daniel Craig?

Alex O'Loughlin : I didn't think I'd get it, but being Jimmy Bond for a day was awesome! I had a tuxedo cut and was flown to London to shoot three audition scenes. One was a seductive scene with a topless Bond girl, and in another one I had to "assassinate" a guy!

Cosmo : You play an Irish muso in August Rush. Can we expect a duet with Holly [Valance] to hit the charts anytime soon?

Alex O'Loughlin : (Groans) I know you didn't just ask me that.

Cosmo : We did.

Alex O'Loughlin : Holly's fantastic, but no, not going to happen.

Cosmo : So spill: what's the most romantic thing you've done for a chick?

Alex O'Loughlin : I'm going to sound like a knob aren't I?

Cosmo : Quite possibly.

Alex O'Loughlin : OK ... I took her to a national park, built a campfire, and told her she would have to sleep in a single swag with me for the night!

Cosmo : That's original!

Alex O'Loughlin : I think I'm a fun boyfriend. I love living life and doing spontaneous things.

Cosmo : Aww. Can we keep you?

Alex O'Loughlin inspired by his Moonlight fans

Hey all ~ I've heard some cool buzz.... Alex O'Loughlin is rumored to be on the verge of becoming a spokesperson for the American Red Cross ~ YEA! From what I'm hearing, he was soooo impressed by Moonlight fans commitment to donating blood and helping others that he wanted to get involved too. Yet another reason to adore him :)

Giving blood to support Alex O'Loughlin's show, Moonlight :)

April is Moonlight month! Time to chat again about giving blood :) I'm aware that many of you donate often, which is wonderful. You are saving lives! My sweet friend Barbara had a great suggestion. Most blood donation organizations give you a sticker announcing that you donated (I know the Oklahoma Blood Institute does). When we send our postcards & letters to CBS in support of Moonlight, we can slap on those stickers to show them what Moonlight has inspired its fans to do. Great idea!

Remember..... if you haven't already made your pledge, please visit Christi & Barbara at http://youchoose.net/campaign/moonlight_season_2. The goal is a national blood drive coinciding with Moonlight's return ~ April 18th to April 27th. Can you imagine fans united in cities across the country?!?! *cheer* You have several choices to help those in need AND support Moonlight. Some of you are not eligible to donate blood. Don't worry! You can still help by contributing to the American Red Cross, organizing events for others who can donate, etc. No one is left out :)

This link is for monetary donations. It is for the LA county chapter of the Red Cross... not only because Moonlight films in Los Angeles, but because their supply & resources were seriously depleted by the California wildfires. Of course, you may donate to any chapter you like or to the national organization. ~ Be sure to make your contribution in honor of Moonlight ~

Moonlight fans are such a thoughtful and generous bunch. I am proud to know you!
