Moonlight: Alex O'Loughlin Grateful for Blood Campaign
by Kris De Leon

As the star of Moonlight, Alex O'Loughlin couldn't be more pleased with fans that have put in great efforts, not to mention blood, sweat and tears, to promote the CBS freshman series. But among all the campaigns, what recently and significantly caught the Australian actor's attention is the fact that fans have come up with a philanthropic act that supports the series and helps save lives at the same time.

As reported recently, fans have launched a blood drive in association with the American Red Cross to request the network to renew Moonlight for a second season and to celebrate new episodes of the vampire detective series when it returns on Friday, April 25.

“It's just so great. Even more so than them caring about the show is that such initiative is being used to participate in a community service at such a selfless level. I think it's such a great idea, and it's such a wonderful project and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. And then on a show level, it's thrilling to know that people care about the show as much as I do,” O'Loughlin said of the blood drive.

While fans are patiently waiting for new episodes to air, O'Loughlin and the rest of the cast of Moonlight are also anxiously waiting for a second season pick up. Although the show has established a solid following and above average ratings, as of the moment, the network has not made any official announcement regarding the fate of the series.

“CBS is so unpredictable in how and why they make the decisions they make which is why no one, not even the other networks, can second-guess them at this time of the year before the upfronts. Personally, I think it'd be a smart business choice to pick the show up, because we have such a rabid fan base and people will tune in to watch,” O'Loughlin, who plays lead character Mick St. John, said.

“As an actor, I can't ever afford to second-guess anything, because often I'm wrong, and it hurts too bad,” he added.

If you're a fan of Moonlight, you can support the show through the blood campaign and by watching new episodes beginning April 25 on CBS.
